Hi Mike, I'm totally green to this and just working on my first cat. What's the next step? Does it get salted? Every video I watch seems to end here. I want to keep mine so I can't skip any steps. Thanks

@bee_marshall so once you stretch it and it is fully dried, then you can have it tanned. If you are tanning it yourself, then just follow the instructions to tan it. Or you can send it out to get tanned. Whatever you do, it has to be dried first. Some locations will do all the fur handling steps for you and all you have to do is skin out the animal and then roll it up and freeze it. But that is usually up to the individual Tannery.

Do you round off the top of the stretcher or leave it like it is?

I have been leaving it as is. However I may try rounding it off next season.

@@OutdoorMike I couldn't find the video with the lengths and widths for you cats.
How sharp is your blade? I'm new to this and just got my first bobcat.

@gh2outdoors975 I keep it as sharp as possible. A dull blade on your knife will result in holes in your hide during the skinning process. My fleshing knife is not as sharp. It has an edge but it's not like my skinning knife. That will come down to personal preference and lots of practice. During the fleshing process it is a feel sort of thing and that only comes with time and repetition. Learn how to do a baseball stitch to fix any holes that you might make as you learn.
