Great tip about how what one eats or drinks before smoking one's cigar can influence the flavor(s) one tastes. I typically drink water before and during smoking to get the unadulterated flavor of the cigar. But, If I ever eat something or drank something other than water, the smoking experience is quite different (and enjoyable in a different way). Good tip.

+Iron man - hey buddy read a book, thats exactly how taste works.
@ironman-6937 жыл бұрын
The tongue map or taste map or tongue taste or map map is a common misconception that different ''sections of the tongue are exclusively responsible for different basic tastes. It is illustrated with a schematic map of the tongue, with certain parts of the tongue labeled for each taste. Although widely taught in schools, this was scientifically disproven by later research; all taste sensations come from all regions of the tongue'' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongue_map and i am not your bud, pal
@mattmcleay69507 жыл бұрын
no one said "exclusive," sure you can still taste salt on the tip of your tongue, but if you actually ever sit down and roll smoke or food or whatever over different parts of your tongue different parts are accentuated. That's why with something as nuanced as cigar smoke or fine spirits you do experience different notes on different parts of your tongue as you taste it.

I also would like to make a correction if you don't mind. The taste map (feeling different tastes in different parts of your tongue) is proved to be a myth. In fact, taste buds just pick the taste, send a signal to the brain and then brain says which taste is which. Some taste buds will taste faster than others for sure. By keeping and rotating smoke in your mouth for a long time probably gives saliva enough time to dissolve smoke particles and make you feel the taste. Last but not the least, there are 5 tastes not 4: sweet, sour, salty, spicy and umami. Cheers and keep up the good work.

Great video, I am new to cigar smoking - about 2 months now and smoke about 2 cigars per week and usually smoke them in the evening after dinner. I have been sticking to "mild" cigars and have not been able to pick out much flavors from them. I will try out your suggestions. I am not always able to finish the entire cigar in one sitting. I will put what's left in a zip lock baggie, but when I try and finish it say the next day it never seems to burn properly. Do your have any suggestions? I have talked to someone at my local B & M shop here in New Mexico and he said that the cigar will not taste or burn right if it's out for that long and I might I well trash it...Is that true?
@Quickdrawmcgraw3578 жыл бұрын
Some people don't mind putting out a cigar and relighting. Personally it completely ruins the flavor and the cigar for that matter to me. I would try picking smaller/shorter cigars for those times when you don't have a lot of time of do not want a long smoke.
@CIGARVIXEN8 жыл бұрын
Thank you and welcome to the cigar world! While I don't personally keep my cigars and relight them ( the flavor is never the same after it sits too long after being lit) you can try cutting off the end that has the ash and blowing through it once it goes out to eliminate any old smoke trapped inside to see if that halls if you need to relight it. But I would recommend trying petit coronas or rothschild size to see if it's a better fit. Hope that helps

I realize your post is old, but maybe this reply will help others. Nicotine can cause a drop in blood sugar. Do not smoke on an empty stomach. Sip on something while smoking. Probably most important is take your time smoking. Do a slow draw. Don’t huff and puff it but take a slow 3 second draw. This will keep the cigar cooler avoiding a hot inhale and also lead to less harsh flavors. A 5 inch cigar will last me an hour and a half. Sometimes longer.
