Great job. I tried doing that too . But joints after cutting both ends before soldering didn’t met each other. Hence It was soldered but ends came apart minute after solder .

How do you feed the chain in so easily/well without the ends splitting?

Followed this video and have just successfully repaired my gold rope chain necklace HOWEVER I seem to have slight discolouration around the repair when the gold has lightened and lost it's yellowness, almost looking a bit silver. Any ideas why this might have happened? I've googled to no success. I don't think it would be noticeable to others but I can definitely see the colour change.

Hi! That is so awesome we could help you repair your chain with this video!! Is it 14k or is it plated? (some jewelry is silver with gold plating over top) We usually will come across discoloration from the fire scale but that is usually a darker color, not silver or lighter. Did you try to put it in a pickle solution? Or polishing with a bristle brush maybe?

Just a question, why cut both links you only need to cut one link and the other one would go in there??

coat the remains of the chain that should not be soldered with protective grease - white gouache, black or brown .... it protects very strongly from sticking and soldering when soldering

Hi! Yes, thank you, you can also use white out as an alternative!

Hi! When we solder chains back together, we try to only solder 2 links stiff so it won't be as noticeable. Can you tell how many links are stiff?

Can you repair a solid rope chain?
@egadjewelry6025
@egadjewelry6025 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a bit easier than hollow since you don't need to worry as much about the links melting. Hollow links are thinner metal since they are hollow and easier to melt.

@@egadjewelry6025 how to determine the construction between hollow and solid of this chain beside it density and weight? do it have any vivid difference in specific?
@egadjewelry6025
@egadjewelry6025 2 жыл бұрын
@@pseudo7152 Hi! Based on looks alone, it is hard to tell if it's hollow or solid. Sometimes if you look at the chain under magnification, you may be able to see the hollow section of a link (like a drinking straw, it will have a "hole" in the link). Price is also a determination, hollow chains are a lot less expensive than solid chains. But we mostly go off the feeling of the chain, hollow chains are going to feel a lot lighter than a solid chain would feel.

We agree that hollow ropes are not the best chain to buy for everyday wear and they do break a lot easier than any solid chain would. This video is just demonstrating how the repair can be done on hollow ropes. Thanks for watching!

@@egadjewelry6025 ya I understand it's impressive that you ca. Actually do that on such a small delicate piece I dunno I don't feel hollow chains good for any type of wear even sparingly.. take an extra month save up just get a straight solid one I just started online Jewelry business have had many people request them but I refuse to put them on my site the lasting quality isn't there in hollow hollow but maybe I'm biased because I can get solid chains at wholesale prices when the normal consumer has to pay retail

@@egadjewelry6025 I would like to learn to make jewelry as well I have a question what what I need to get started making chains like the basic setup and tools?
@egadjewelry6025
@egadjewelry6025 2 жыл бұрын
@@Savethepandabears We like to call the hollow ropes & herringbones "mother-in-law" jewelry haha. (if you don't like your mother-in-law) Since they are both easy to break. But yes, solid is always the way to go for lasting quality. What is your site? I would love to take a look! To make a chain, I start out with wire, to make it the size you want you will take it through a drawplate. Once you have the right size wire, you can bend it around a dowl, we use the pepe jump ring maker. Then saw through the links to make individual rings. Once you assemble the chain you will then need a torch to solder the links together and some kind of flux and gold solder. We have a couple videos making chains on our youtube page you can check out step by step. Let me know if you have any questions and we will do our best to help!
