In this super quick video I'm demonstrating how to solder header pins to a 2x16 LCD and make them perfectly straight. The alphanumeric liquid-crystal display used in this tutorial is a Hitachi HD44780.

Very cool. A quick and easy way to simply an otherwise difficult job.

Same. I got one and I thought it came with it…. RIP 🪦 now thinking of what to do. Whether to get the soldering kit or just buy a new one haha. What a pain

@@yesyes9698 If you bought just for a personal Arduino project or something like that, you could try buying one with an I2C module. Those have pins on the module you can hook up via dupont cables. No idea how to use it, though. I bought the bare LCD module for a class, and my professor wants us to use a less abstracted approach over the main 16 pins.

Is it possible to use an LCD as a replacable display for a worn out VFD please? I can send pictures I have of what I could find for the FIP16A5R VFD in my S-550 service notes and what I'm trying to do with replacing the old VFD with an LCD. Please let me know if this would work or not I'll email pictures to show what I mean too

Can we connect LCD without soldering??
@ElectronFunCom
@ElectronFunCom 6 жыл бұрын
These LCDs usually come with no header pins, so it's difficult to use them without soldering the pins or wires directly.

@@ElectronFunCom Could you put some flux on the pins before soldering or would that not be good?
@GabbeeAnimator
@GabbeeAnimator 2 ай бұрын
No. You cannot. You need a soldering iron to get them stuck. Good thing I have a soldering iron

don't you think that the breadboard might be damaged by the heat?
@ElectronFunCom
@ElectronFunCom 7 жыл бұрын
No it won't if you do it quickly enough. Overheating pads is not a good practice too, so don't do that and you won't manage to melt the breadboard.

It's in the solder wire, so you don't have to add more flux.
