How to Solve Queensland's Flooding Problems?

Brisbane and other parts of South East Queensland, plus parts of New South Wales including Lismore and Sydney have flooded once again.
*This video was written and filmed before the widespread flooding disaster had really engulfed a lot of New South Wales as well, so we only briefly touch on it. We are not trying to downplay the severity of the crisis down south by focusing on Brisbane and South East Queensland, it just hadn't happened yet quite as much as up here in Brisbane.**
After a rain bomb lingered over the city, delivering almost a year’s worth of rain in three days, the city was underwater. Boats and pontoons were washed down the mighty Brisbane river, roads became kayak courses and parks became raging torrents. Not to mention the countless number of homes and businesses that were inundated, causing extensive damage - and potentially more. Can we stop flooding events like this one from happening in the future. Are new dams like Wivenhoe Dam good flood mitigation measures? Are we able to redirect floodwaters from Queensland and up north, to inland areas of Australia where it's dry and often in drought? A plan like this has been proposed called the New Bradfield Scheme which would see a series of pipes and dams redirecting water to the middle of Australia.
And in combination with that scheme, a project like Snowy Hydro 2.0 that generates hydroelectricity by recycling dam water could also be created, which could take damaging floodwaters away from populated areas and turn it into a clean, green, renewaable energy.

The Federal LNP has just today promised over $5billion to build the Hells Gate Dam in North Queensland! Hells Gate Dam is the cornerstone of the New Bradfield Scheme, which could see the scheme expanded in the future to include other dams in the network. Reckon ScoMo watched my video on the topic?

It has been in the national conversation on and off for a number of years... There are a lot of considerations that would go into something like this and of course it would be quite expensive so there are a lot of people that would need to have input.

@@MelPikos Good people are finally talking about it again, and thanks for making this video. I guess there were those who once said the Harbour Bridge would be too expensive too, and now it's just a fact about Sydney. Once New Bradfield is a reality, a fact, I can guarantee everyone will look at you as if you're crazy when you say there was a time once when there was no Bradfield Scheme or when people were debating whether to build it. And in terms of cost, it's around $15B. The cost of these floods will be around $10B, so that's 2/3rds of the cost potentially saved with just ONE flood event, not to mention the augmentation of food security and food export.

Another 2 dams are need especially in southeast Queensland we live in subtropical weather. Somerset was 76% and taken inflows from Stanley days before it hit lower corner. All those ranges around both catchments funnel in towards those dams via creeks etc. Building a city on a flood plan so close to a river of that size was never a smart move. Councils approving estates in flood zones another dumb move. Saying Climate change is cause this weather is another dumb blaming issue. Floods have been part of life before our generation 1880's, early 1900's bigger floods than what we have seen. The whole climate change is part of the CCP strategy to control our economy even more 85% of electric cars & components come out of china & taiwan. The minerals we need to create batteries and turbines all come out of the ground so ppl want net zero well you better crack the picks & shovels out and start digging cause it will take you a while.

That would require massive read expensive pumps to raise the water. Lake Wivenhoe too low.

Water IS our most precious resource; it is essential to all living things! Any scheme to store and redistribute water to where it is needed most should be done regardless of the cost. In fact, in the long run, it will be much more costly if it is not done. Problem is, too many politicians can only think short term (“how can I get elected for another year?”), and for this to work we need someone with enough vision to think long term...

What ever the cost if effectively done the agricultural benefits will pay for this 10 fold over the next century as farmland continues to disappear. Not to mention the benefit if the farming was done in a sustainable manor the amount of carbon that would be sucked out of the atmosphere from grassland and farming. Bring it on.

no matter what you will build, it will still be called as a resource, u guys should start massive afforestation of native trees in the central Australia along the dams and built them as well. maybe ur future generations will benefit no matter how much higher the costs are currently now

Australia has been spending 97% of the money to do flood damaged cleaning, 3% on mitigation. We need to learn from our pioneers of the Snowy Scheme, stand up and do it if it is good for the country in long term. Instead keep working on Costs/Benefits analysis. This is why the communist is better than than the capitalist, they always look for PROFITs for themselves.
