Thanks a lot, mr Chan, for sharing all this knowledge and experience. This year I'm so excited of getting back to Bonsai cultivation after a putting it on hold for 10 years, and your videos are a great encouragement!, I'm watching all avidly. It's awesome how our brains work: last year I didn't notice anything special around my garden and my neighborhood, but this year after your videos about seedlings, now I see little plants literally everywhere!! 😅. I've collected around 20 Silver maples just from my backyard, and found tree 4year old silver maples growing within my wildflowers garden 😊. I wish I could share some photos. Thanks a lot for your encouragement, it has been an amazing boost for me.

Just down the road from me lives a “historic” Maple. I call it historic because there’s a concrete plaque that shows it was planted in 1922. I noticed that the seeds were starting to drop last week, so I picked a bunch; I hope I didn’t jump the gun and pick them too soon. I’m here for education; I want to give my seeds the best possible chance to become huge, beautiful trees. I will be long dead by then. @mchlbk
@mchlbk 3 жыл бұрын
They don't do graft at Herons, only seeds, cuttings and airlayerings. The baby plants are not clones of the mother tree. Natural selection/evolution may give you something interesting. Most tiny plants will inherit the caracteristics of the mother tree though. Sow a lot and select the best for whatever project you have in mind.

I am not to knowledgeable about all the trees on my property bc it belonged to my late mother. They are special now ☺️ When I left Cali a few years ago, I took my late father’s baby ficus tree, now that tree is stuck at my home in Florida. I get so emotionally attached to family’s trees. It’s crazy. I think my seeds are Himalayan Or Flying Moth seeds. Do you know what species your tree is? Were we suppose to collect them back in November? Thank you for this! Seeds are falling now in June from one of my Maples & I'm wondering if you'd plant them now or wait until October?

Is it possible to grow maple tree in the tropical countries?
@mchlbk
@mchlbk 3 жыл бұрын
Not likely. Cold winter is essential and they suffer if it's too warm in the summer.

Can I collect the seeds from the red maple tree in the spring and sow them? (I live in the Southern Hemisphere, which spring is September/October)

You collect seeds that are mature on tree just before they fall.

Are any of your trees grafted??

Only some trees bought from other nurseries. Herons don't do grafts.

So if the seeds from a Japanese maple and Dissectum are still dark red in color, they are NOT ready to harvest, they are still immature I am guessing? My problem is the seeds disappear each year before the end of October when they should be ready. Sometimes they start falling while they are still a bright red color. I always assumed they were ready.

Sir, can japanese maple survive in Indian climate? Let me know. If I keep it in a indoor pot and allow some time in direct sunlight☀
@mchlbk
@mchlbk 3 жыл бұрын
Not likely. They need cold winter temperatures for dormancy or they will suffer and die. Indian summer temperatures may be too hot too. If you're not in a temperate climate maples are probably not ideal. But by all means give it a go, propagating plants is always fun. :)

if the maple drops it's seed in Spring (it's my understanding some varieties do?) do you then plant seeds in Spring? or still wait until the start of winter?

Red and silver maples are much easier to start because they don’t need cold stratification since they seed in late spring and early summer you can just plant them in and they’ll grow
