This ties in with communication skills but when trainers brush off client fears! Telling a client “don’t worry, you’re fine” after the client expresses his fear of a certain exercise because of a previous injury. Definitely a red flag I see often! Though true that the exercise is fine for the client to do, it’s important to empathize with the client and go on to explain WHY the particular exercise is safe and actually beneficial to the area of concern. Clients need to feel heard and reassured.

Joined a boxing gym and only went for private sessions. The trainer would constantly walk off and chat with other trainers and leave me wondering if I’m even doing drills correctly. When he did stick around, half the time he was on his phone. Glad I left and came across this video.

I don't know if this is a sign of a bad trainer but I've met a lot of people who give bad advice when comes to Fitness uniformity and by this I mean the attitude of what works for one works for all people that say oh run a mile but what if that person had a heart condition or asthma what works for one body may not work for another a good personal trainer or a person giving good advice on personal training understands this very well and understands that an individualized workout plan in nutrition plan it's what's best one that is precisely designed according to that person's needs health conditions and current Fitness level

Hey jeff. Here in my city, it is very common to find such personal trainers. Not only new, but even personal trainers with more than a decade experience are also the same. And I feel so sorry for their clients, because people here are used to this behaviour.

8:20 - I’m not sure about this one, I regularly utilize my phone to reference the training plan, take notes, time rest periods, calculate plates on the bar, etc. It’s easy to slip in or out of my pocket and I’m not encumbered by carrying around a clipboard and whatever else I’d need to replace my phone. My attention is focused on the client during sets, and between sets I’ll chit chat, start timers, and reference what comes next so things move along smoothly.

In my opinion, there's a stigma attached to being on your phone that's hard to shake with most people. For the sake of that and looking the most professional I can be since I'm being paid top dollar. I would opt for a watch / clipboard. If you want to be environmentally friendly get an iPad and throw one of those cases on for protection. File your paper work or transfer via cloud. I know plenty of top dollar trainers 100-150$ an hour and none of them use their phone to track their clients workouts or use it as a timer. At most they will take a video of their client to post on their IG feed with their permission of course.

jiujitsu 561 This is well said. I think at the end of the day enough people still view doing all of that stuff on the phone as unprofessional. Many clients wont care but some will. To the original poster: I’m glad that’s working out well for you! If you’re not receiving any pushback and you’re still focusing 100% on your client I would keep doing what’s working!

@@austinpryel Good points, I might look into investing in an iPad. I’m not married to the idea of using my phone, it just happens to be really efficient. @@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation Yeah, no issues thus far. And I feel like I understand where you were coming from with the advice, I just disagreed with the way it was put. I feel like technology has more potential for good than harm within a session, but I recognize the potential impressions that might come along with it. Because of that, I’m very mindful of how I use my phone.

No, it isn't. Dieticians and nutritionists need to give nutrition advice, not the personal trainer. Medical doctors also have to keep track of how people are going with their healthcare as well, and it's none of the personal trainer's business.

Doesn’t sound like he’s the right fit for you (or a very good trainer…) ! You can try saying something to him directly if he works for himself or a facility manager. Voicing your concerns can definitely be helpful. Depending on how long you signed up with him for, either speak to a facility manager about your difficulties with him to see if you could try and work with someone else or they can help you out, or try someone/somewhere else that might be a better fit at the end of your package.

My personal trainer has me come in 3 days a week and do only one exercise each time. It just seems strange to me. I'm paying the gym $660 per month to have personal training for half an hour three times a week. And he has me come in and literally do one exercise, maybe three reps of it, and that's it. Maybe he'll have me do two different exercises. And then it's over. Is that normal? I feel super ripped off.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation Жыл бұрын
This is definitely not normal. The only case where i could see it taking that long to do a couple sets would be if you’re very much focused on strength (such as a powerlifter). I would ask your trainer or the management why that is the case and probably find a new trainer to work with.

One of my close friend, looks fat and around 96 kg reduced from 120 kg. But recently He did International Personal trainer certification. I am not sure he do all the work outs properly with right formation. He joined as a gym PT now, training some people old age people and freshers. My point is he doing business to earn money apart from that, There is no improvements in his body still looks fat. He's not at all following diet and totally out of form even he don't have shape in his body before. He is dumping general trainers like who practically did all the work outs and get into the form ( no knowledge) I am worried about him why doing like that.

I don’t think it’s necessary to show physical improvements when you’re training average, everyday clients with typical physiques. If you’re training bodybuilders, that’s a different story. You should look like a bodybuilder if you’re going to train them. At the end of the day, I think trainers should practice what they preach.
