I work in a big box gym and I am a new PT ..I am natural introvert and enjoy my time in the gym and naturally compliment and praise people. So I do know what he says makes complete sense.

Thank you! I really appreciate the support! I’ve had clients who were hard of hearing or had other communication issues. I’ve often times had to say things very slowly for clients with hearing issues that way they can read lips. You could always communicate back and forth via writing between sets when necessary too! Just remember to patient and friendly with people with hearing issues. They typically wont mind a small initial learning curve.

Great video. I'm up for my second interview step as a trainer. I'll be shadowing a HIIT class and then conduct one with the gym's employees. I won't lie-I am a little intimidated about it. I do have a BS in kinesiology (double major with physical education) but have never worked in the field in the ten years since I graduated. Your tips are great and I definitely plan to use them for both the interview process and training if I get the job.

Great content Jeff, how to handle clients who keeps on asking questions but don't follow the plan given to him
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation3 ай бұрын
What are they asking questions about? First, get to Understand why they aren’t following the program. Set up smaller goals to have them do it or focus in one on or two things vs many things.

Hey Jeff, great video! It has helped me a lot. Quick question: how would you go about communicating or engaging with a client that doesn’t like talking? I respect if they don’t want to and are just there to work, but sometimes it’s a bit awkward haha I usually help with counting their reps or set up the next exercise so I’m not just there standing. Any tips for that?
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation2 жыл бұрын
Hah totally get that sometimes awkward feeling! I would just ask them basic questions about the workout if they’re not super conversing, “How’s that weight feel?” “How many more reps could you do?” “Did that feel easy, medium or hard?” You can also just ask basic questions like if they have any weekend plans, or what they’re eating for lunch/dinner that day. Might not be a full conversation but it’s not silence!

@sorta healthy. Dear Jeff. What advice will you give new PT in context of thier behaviour with thier colleagues. Especially if they are new to the business and don't have much experience training clients. I dont have a fitness back ground and work for a big box gym. I have a hospitality and Cabin crew back ground and love Personal Training. I love people and used to train cabin crew as a passion. I am now with fitness first and see a lot of hostility from some Personal trainers and I also know some of them are spreading a word that I don't have any background and train my clients properly. Can you please help me with my dilemma. It can also be a question for your next blog. Regards Madhav.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation3 жыл бұрын
I would ignore them and do your own thing. Make sure that you’re up to date on your education, do your best to communicate like a professional with everyone, and then let the clients choose. Trainers can be a judgmental bunch so I wouldn’t focus on them too much, just focus on you and what you can control.

How do you go about scheduling client workouts? Is it the same day/time every week? Or do they choose their own days/times at the beginning of the week? Or something else? Thanks in advance!
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation3 жыл бұрын
Most of our clients come in at the same time every week and just change them as needed. Some client switch up their times every week though. It’s a little different for everyone. Our schedule system Vagaro makes it pretty easy either way.

Hi .hi hi hi I really wanted to know about training a client in pregnancy .. do’s and donts..
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation3 жыл бұрын
Hi!! We will actually be making a video on this at some point, I’m just not sure when. Training clients during pregnancy is a long winded answer to be honest. A lot of it depends on how fit they were/how much they exercised prior to becoming pregnant. In general, after the first trimester, you want to avoid exercises laying down since it can diminish blood flow. Certain abdominal exercises such as planks can also be iffy due to difficulty properly engaging the abdominals. Overall, lighter weights will be required, longer breaks and lots of checking in with the client to see how they are feeling and doing. Again, we’ll be covering this in greater detail at some point!
