Thank you Mike for providing all the various videos on stamping... So I feel compelled to share my experience... I'm a DIY'er (weekend warrior!) and I've poured and finished various concrete patios, walkway, and even barnyards over the years.... So I think I know what I'm doing (mistake #1). I just completed a 42 ft X 3 ft wide straight walkway in the front of house. This time I wanted to try the stamping. How hard can it be right? (mistake #2)... I watched enough videos!! Anyway, This is intended to be both a warning, as well as a plug for you the professional! If neatness and looking professional is what counts... Do NOT try this yourself..... If you can live with mediocre results and an amateur -ish look, than try it yourself. The main problem... WAY too many variables that can drastically effect things. Problems started shortly after about the 5-6 wheel barrow load got dumped.... it was about 10:30 am, and already about 82-84 degrees and humid. Next, added color into the truck upon arrival. Driver did say the color can cause concrete to dry quicker.... I told him to go to about 6 slump. It wasn't enough. Before I even got down to about 10-15 ft left to screed... things were ALREADY drying 'dangerously' fast such that it took everything muscle in my body (along with having no choice but to lightly spray water on top so we could float and finish it the best we could)... So in one way I feel like I deserve an award from saving things from being a complete disaster. but due to these unforeseen 'curve balls'.... IT forced us to rush and frantically begin the stamping process immediately!. I was using a 'Italian Slate' texture skin, and thank God, because if we were attempting say a field stone or something with grout lines, It surely would have been a disaster!! So the Gull Gray color seems much lighter due to the water sprayed on top, and the Storm Gray release agent seems 'blotchy' at best..... All things considered, I think I can live with the result, but wondering if an overlay 're-do' is a possibility or should I do as the wife says and , 'Better quit while your ahead' THANKS !!

Mike love your work. I've watched a lot of your stamping videos and notice you always is integral color and standard dry release. My understanding is that a color hardner has more surface strength and easier to match up on future pours. Is there a reason you dont use or dislike color hardner?

Question doesn’t the stamps ruin the border you just rolled on the outside?

It's also important how you pick your mats up to move...so you don't scuff the area you just stamped..have you guys poured and stamped bull nose steps ? Now that's alittle tricky..jerry, Concrete Impressions

On the stamped concrete I noticed you didn't put any control joints. Since the stamped concrete has shallow ridges, are you concerned for uncontrolled cracks?

I worked 9 years for a crete co. And never used these , dont like them, we had aluminum rollers with the design s in the rollers. Hell of a lot better than the rubber stamp. At least for our company.

Thanks for all the info you share on your channel! I have taken it upon myself to do a bunch of stamped concrete in my back yard. I am mixing 80lb bags in a mixer so I am doing small sections at a time. The issue I’m running into is when I go to stamp the color hardner is seeping through the joints as I step down on the mats. I think I’m starting to stamp too early but it seems like if I wait any longer it will be set up too much. I start once I can only push down about a quarter of an inch on the surface of the concrete. Maybe I’m putting the color hardner on too early. Should I wait till all the bleed water is evaporated before I throw on color hardner? Thanks again for all the info!
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 3 жыл бұрын
Yea, we either wait for the bleed water to evaporate, or if it feels ready, we have to mag float off the remaining water or squeegee it off. Then we broadcast the release powder and stamp. We do also get some paste seeping up through the joints of the stamps. I'll rub out the joints the next day when we wash the slab with a round metal stake to remove that extra hardened paste.

Mike nice job. I like the Ashler slate stamps. We just did same pattern on a 4’x70’ sidewalk a couple days ago. I’ll be posting a video soon. Check it out buddy. Love the touch up tool u made out of a paint roller. 👍 we use what looks like a pizza cutter. I also like that roller you have for edges. Where did you get that? Bondo
