Finally! God I’ve seen so many bone dry starts online.. it’s terrible for everything.. I like to put a cap full of oil down in the spark plug holes and let it marinate.. I also use a syringe and put fuel into the float holes so it doesn’t keep cranking to hell before those old fuel pumps finally engage

About to buy a 2-door 1985 Pontiac Grand Prix that's been sitting for 3 years. The lady said it was insured, registered and driven on weekends before her husband died. It's been sitting ever since. Anything you would recommend before trying to start it? It's a hard to find car these days and I don't want to mess it up. I'm getting it for only $1,000.

If it was me, I'd change the oil (make sure there's no water in the oil you drain out - oil's lighter than water, so the water will be on the bottom when you pull the drain plug). It might not be a bad idea, particularly if the car is carbed, to fog the cylinders lightly with some sort of oil - not WD40, but an actual oil of some sort through the spark plug holes. Don't go nuts with that, just a little bit is all you need. Like a few milliliters; nowhere near enough to hydro lock it. Then you definitely want to prime the oil pump and ideally verify oil pressure before starting it up. Of course, make sure there's some coolant in it too; if it's rusty, drain and replace that too. Then fire it up. That's the most you can do to protect it reasonably. If you fogged the cylinders with oil, it'll smoke a bit, but that should also prevent or minimize cylinder bore damage. I would also make sure there's some trans fluid in it too, but you won't be able to get a good read on the level until it's running. Definitely check the trans fluid level before trying to drive it.

@@AlexLTDLX - I read somewhere that it's necessary to mark the distributor and then turn it to circulate the oil (whatever that means), but sounds like a pain in the ass to do all that. Is it necessary? Do I have to pull all the spark plugs in order to "fog" the car? What about old gas or a rusty gas tank? Do u think that will be an issue? Being that it's a carburetor car, do I need starting fluid or to pour some gas in the carburetor first? Thanks for your reply!

i have a toyota camry 2006 model that has been sitting for 2years the entire 4 tyres are deflated. what do i do?

At the very least, air up the tires, change the oil and coolant, put in a new battery and start it. If the car's been sitting for a long time completely neglected, particularly outside, it would be dangerous to try and drive it without going over the brakes - brake lines can rust through, and brake fluid attracts water. Good luck.

Good Morning Yes I would like to know where I can get the same app that show how your Gauges or working. I haven't used my 2011 Ford Fusion Se the last time I drive it on 06-18-19 & it was in a accident ok

Sorry about your car. But that's not a nap in the way you're thinking. This car runs an aftermarket EFI system called megasquirt. That's the tuning software. It won't work with your car unfortunately.

Would this work for a 1998 f250?

It should. As long as it has a small block Ford in it.

Ahh yes - she's smoked many times before. With the newer Litium Ion powered tools, the DeWalt doesn't get much use anymore, but she's primed many an engine in her day.

Never let your power tool sit and smoke. Take it out from the hole then run it without any load full blast so the fins cool it down. They'll last twice as long when you cool them down.
