Can I just say how much I appreciated this video? So many of the other homesteading videos I’ve watched seem to be made by people with no competing priorities. The fact that you do all this on top of having a 9-5 job is so inspiring! I also thought it was kind of you to include your neighbor in your kombucha making. Best of luck to you and your husband as you save up to buy some land!

Hello El Chippo! This was so kind of you! There are many of us with small homestead dreams that are balancing full-time work. I''ve learned to embrace that 1. there's much to learn that doesn't require having your own land and 2. pacing your time, energy, and finances along the destination prevents overwhelm! Yes, my neighbor Shelia is slowly becoming a farm girl too! Have a great weekend!

I started in my apartment, 25 years ago. I made all of my own health and beauty products, I grew herbs and flowers and I soaked up all the learning I could. I did a little each month. 1 month could be a box of canning jars and lids, next month was skincare items, following month could be planters and dirt. It's always a fun adventure! Looking forward to more!
@BecomingaFarmGirl3 жыл бұрын
You’re on to me, Heather (and alas we are kindred spirits in this way) because your method is pretty much exactly what I’ve been doing the last few years. I have fully grasped that even a small homestead requires real work and I want the eventual transition to be as successful as possible since I’m coming from a rudimentary background. It’s proven to be a blessing because I’ve been able to build up my canning jar collection over time and other tools and add complete more from scratch projects easier and faster each year because I truly break things down in small chunks as my time, budget allow. Now, it’s just how I live in my home. Wouldn’t change it because it’s so satisfying. So many homesteading skills don’t require land, or you start to learn/implement skills with a few adjustments. I’m so pleased to hear this and know that others will read your story and hopefully also be encouraged!

I love that you are living your dreams wherever you are which happens to be in a townhouse! Would love to to see a full tour of the home and garden and how you set everything up. I’ll look around your channel to see if there is a video like that already…. If there isn’t then that would be a GREAT video idea! Thanks for this video. So fun and positive and realistic

Hi Tereza! I just saw your comment on my blueberry jam video, but it’s so nice to meet a new farm girl! You are spot on! My husband is military so we’ve been abroad and particularly noticed that small space living is the norm yet they still create beautiful potted gardens, hang them clothes to dry, efficiently use their space, have a spirit of hospitality and proudly prepare meals using local ingredients still heavily sourced from local vendors. In the states we tend to believe you can only enjoy a farm fresh/simpler life once you have land, animals, etc. I know that we’ll make the leap when the time is right but we aren’t going to rush it because a-there are other logistics we have to consider and b-We still have lots to learn until then. I’ve done a garden tour but will have more coming for sure. I can appreciate that you are curious about my home and I will continue to share but give me some grace to work my nerves up to a home tour--I’m very much a average gal, in a “needs some work here and there” townhome not a decorator. Plus the majority of my home has been styled second hand so it’s a bit eclectic. I do hope to share very soon-perhaps this winter?! 😀 lovely to “meet” you!

You are SUCH an inspiration! As a Montana girl who lives in the city (okay, Billings, where we only have 115,000ish people) and only have access to a fairly small backyard, I am always looking for ways to make the most of the space I have. I know quite a few farmers/ranchers and with a lot of homesteading youtubers, and envy their seemingly infinite amount of space to work with. In our 70x70 backyard we have laying hens, a new pair of breeding rabbits for meat, a modest garden, a few fruit trees, more permaculture berries and trees to come, and I'm always looking for more to add. Your space is even smaller, but you are doing an amazing job of working within your limitations! Your creativity and drive are helping me be motivated to us my indoor spaces more efficiently. Thank you!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

This has got to be one of the most inspiring videos ive seen on realizing a homestead dream because it feels so close and attainable. You're absolutely right, you dont necessarily need a large plot of land to begin just DOING IT. And with the comforts of the globalized world spreading thin, with grocery stores sometimes struggling to stay stocked, supply chain uncertainties, and here in Memphis the very frequent city-wide power outages due to poor infrastructure, im realizing more and more that a passionate DIY maker-mindset and a desire to return to the roots, is the future and what will save us. We all rely too heavily on institutions like corporations or governments to take care of us, when we could easily turn the human condition around if we take care of ourselves and those close to us. Our true power comes from within and it is from there that we can begin building stronger local communities. Keep it up and never give up!
