I chose 'end-of-steam', 'beginning-of-diesel' on a small branch terminus. There is a split-level station that is shared between standard and narrow gauges. A rope-worked incline unloads a canal barge to the NG sidings under (to be) Arduino control. This means you can run practically anything you fancy and it won't look too out of place...

Hi jenny thank you for a very informative introduction to the hobby I already have a small L-layout which I've had for some time now it needs a bit of work on it up to date it, we need someone like yourself to keep giving tips. 'baited breath' not sure, thanks once again!

Very informative once again.A very nice step back in time,when one was a child.Always reading the Railway Modeller within WHS ....My old Uni days got in the way,so it all went onto the back burner..Now i am into it slow at first,soon builds up over time and cost..Cazz

Ha ha yeh I've never understood the 'baited breath' term! Anyway a very informative and welcoming introduction to the hobby there Jenny. I do think railway modelling is one of the friendlier hobbies out there, with so many generous and knowledgeable people like yourself being more than happy to share their expertise and experience with those new to the hobby. Hope you get the snow you're hoping for!! We didn't get any in the south last winter, which I was very disappointed about!

tjf4375 Bated breath comes from the same word route as abated, so means stopped breathing. Hence waiting with such anticipation that you forget to breathe. And I agree about the variety of time and region; good to focus on one, but also you need to work out what that time and era will allow.

Some very good advice there. Yet I think we all occasionally get led astray by the "must have" impulse of a nice looking prototype in seductive paintwork! As my layout is a small loco setup based on an Island - like the IoW (but not the IoW) I allow my locoshed to be the recipient of interesting oddities and rejects e.g. railbuses and teddy bears. It works for me.

Hi L.M.S. Dave here, Just asking as to what you think of the Hammant and Morgan Clippers with the resistance control.

This is the first time I have seen inside your old shed and the layout. On the wall behind you, there is a picture, is it a J70 or a brake van? You haven't aged a bit. Martin. (Thailand)

Thanks! That’s a picture of a brake van.

Thanks for the video, Jenny. Just wondering if this is a one off or will you be recording anymore in a similar theme?
@JenniferEKirk10 жыл бұрын
I will probably be recording more, but no fixed timeframe for doing so.

Jenny is correct too about limiting yourself to modeling a certain era and location in the beginning. It is far too expensive to be the be all and end all. It is expensive enough as it is to model one station and its surroundings. Do condense and consolidate. For example one unmarked factory could end up being depending upon your imagination several different factories or warehouses.

I try to focus on particular periods, but seem to have amasses quite a massive range of stock despite this.

It does creep up on us, we all tend to overbuy. That is why as a beginner, which you aren't anymore, it is best to live within limits... Not many of us build a huge layout with their first layout... I am like a child in a candy store when I visit a hobby store or website, I want to buy everything, I want it all.... But alas, I can not afford to do so....
