Our entire house is a yes space. We lock any cabinet they should not access, and covered any outlet/cords. We allow our 12 month old to open/close any doors including the fridge. She loves to pull out the wipes and we allow her. She likes to pull out cards from wallets, and we have a old wallet with old cards. We allow her to pull out and put back clothes from the drawers. We don't follow Montessori but we knew that letting our child explore was great for her development.

You nailed it dear, iam a montessorian definitely agree with everything you said, I have a son we started montessori since he was able to see and even could not sit. We would literally assist him doing so many things now he's 1 and I can see the difference montessori approach makes,. It us simply amazing because we didn't buy sooo much clutter just used whatever resources we have and I did diy myself so didn't spend much. God bless you Santana.

If you have a library card & have access to hoopla you can borrow that book or audiobook for free. & yes I was Montessori before I even knew what it was because I always followed my child & always had her involved in practical life & already followed lots of the principles. Now this time around we are getting the actual Montessori materials trying not to be tricked by Montessori inspired toys.

Thank you for the tip about libraries! And I think it’s great to get “actual Montessori materials”! I also think it’s okay when families opt for “montessori inspired” - I have found you don’t need to be all or nothing to get a lot of out implementing Montessori principles with your kids :)

Since you display puzzles and other toys "undone"/not put together, when do you undo them? While your kid is right there as they clean up? at night/nap time?
@kbutrie
@kbutrie 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Normally I do it while she’s sleeping and I’m cleaning things up, prepping for her to wake up the next time. But sometimes if I notice she DID the puzzle but moved on, I’ll quickly put the pieces back in the bowl 🤗

That's a nice one. My child is turned one now. Keeps all tiny pieces in mouth. How can I give these Montessori to him? Can I start now?
@kbutrie
@kbutrie 3 жыл бұрын
What tiny pieces are you concerned about? I wouldn’t give him anything that’s a choking hazard if he’s going to put it in his mouth but you don’t need to do that in order to implement Montessori!!! You can implement so many of these concepts without tiny pieces :)

What about the child getting into the toothpaste at times when you don't want them to? I could imagine my son doing this, opening it and having toothpaste in the carpet. Also, any tips for when they do fight you on holding your hand in public and not listening /following you in the store? I didn't let my son walk around hardly at all in the beginning (partly because of the pandemic and partly because I'm so scattered-brained and easily frustrated). Now he's 20 months and I struggle to get him to stay with me so I can shop. I honestly throw my hands up to letting him walk around every time I try.
@kbutrie
@kbutrie 2 жыл бұрын
I think if he’ll be able to get into the toothpaste, I’d put that somewhere he doesn’t have access until it’s time for him to use it. You can always get it out for him at the appropriate times and then let him grab it for when it’s time - it’ll still feel special to him to be involved in that part :) As for holding hands in public or the store - work up to it! Give him a few minutes at a time and then if it’s starting to get difficult, back in the stroller or cart. The more practice he gets, the better able he’ll be to do it with time. You want to GROW in independence but it’s okay to take baby steps to get there :). You can also practice at home or in your yard if you have one to get him used to listening and holding your hand!
@taylamorris
@taylamorris 2 жыл бұрын
@@kbutrie thank you! That's actually helps a lot. Right now, I do hand him his toothbrush to brush himself, but I always applied the paste myself. I never actually thought about let him do it. I will definitely try that for outings and at home in the yard. Thank you so much for replying! ♥

@kbutrie
@kbutrie 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! In the video I mentioned that it interrupts the child, which should be avoided as much as possible! But there are also other reasons. This Montessori article explains it more in depth ☺️ reachformontessori.com/2019/01/03/why-good-job-is-harmful/

I think its because Montessori says children may expect praise to do something which doesn't happen in normal everyday life. 🤷
