We're here to help! I've seen many custom decorators spin up their own brand as a side-hustle to their own decorating business, it's a great way to be your own client in a way! My biggest piece of advice is to always market them separately as the audience for custom printed apparel and clothing lines are different and can confuse potential customers of each. Social media is a great place to see if people would be interested in certain designs or apparel styles- Using AI (like bing.com/create) for image creation can sure help.

Getting started is most certainly the hardest part! But, looks like you found some great advice to get you going :) You can start an LLC as early as you want- There is a small cost (typically around $100 depending on your state) and It can separate any personal assets from business assets and allow you to get a tax ID & business license for wholesaler rates.

hello dave, not sure if you have answered this question but do you know if the heat press consumes a lot of electricity? would it be comparable with having an a/c running? I'm trying to see how impacted the electric bill would be. Thank you

Great question! I did not cover it here in this session. Most likely it will be minimal depending on the usage (The more you press, the more its going to take to help it maintain temperature). An A/C unit is likely to be much more noticeable in power consumption than a heat press, even if you're pressing all day every day.

Is pod worth it for startup

Printing on Demand (when a customer orders, you print a shirt) with a heat press and transfers yourself is totally worth it for startup. The days of stocking bulk, pre-printed inventory that is a financial risk if it doesn't sell is in the past. Now, Utilizing print on demand services (where someone else prints and ships for you) can be hit and miss for startup businesses: Great it you have a huge following and customers ready to buy but don't have the time to fulfill. Bad for brands looking to build a name and/or make money. While it can help you free up time to advertise and market yourself without having to produce t-shirts yourself, you make very minimal profit and because all production and shipping is outsourced, you don't see the quality before your customer does.

Hey Friend! Sorry to hear about your challenges finding apparel. I wish I could help, but I'm not too familiar with wholesale suppliers in Africa. I wasn't able to find any sources from Kenya, however, there seems to be a few wholesale apparel distributors based in Nairobi, Kenya that may be worth looking into! I've heard from several shops that are not in wholesale distribution areas order large amounts to help offset the shipping costs, but I understand not everyone's budget allows for that. I'm sure you'll find a supplier to can help!
