so you are in favor of slavery are you? Bible = not sword...bible is an very old book, a copy from a copy from a copy from a translation from a translation, put together by a council of christian sektleaders hundreds of years after the stories supposedly took place. ......how any one in the 21st century bases their whole life on what a very ancient book full of very ancient rules states is beyond me. It's infanticide after infanticide, mass killings because of people's behaviour, it's one horrible story after another...it's stories that were proven to be not true (Noah's ark as the obvious one)...and still people have a billion dollar industry desperatly trying to sell what's in this book as some kind of moral highground...it's just YUK...thank my parents for giving me the opportunity to learn to think for myself and thank me for being an atheist. YAY!

@@Speedobabe Hi! We as christians are truely not a fan of slavery, otherwise we wouldn't fight it! I really hope that you see the good that comes out of radical christianity, for example a fight for social justice (feeding the poor, fighting trafficing, fighting abuse, fighting persecution, fighting for freedom from dictatorships, fighting racism, ...), spreading love, peace, kindness, ... and most of all spreading the good news of reconciliation with god and ethernal life. About the reliability of modern bibles transporting the original message: This is a topic I am currently researching a lot. We have old testament manuscripts from very different ages. The most extreme example is probably if you compare the Masoretic Text (manuscripts from the 9th-10th centuary ad available) with 1Qlsa (~~150-100 bc), you will find minor differences (2600 in this case), but nothing impacting theology! I also want to note that language also develops within 1000 years. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaiah_Scroll "from a translation from a translation" No! It was written in Hebrew for the most parts (Parts of Daniel and Ezra were written in Aramaic but that also for a reason). The Jews at the time of Jesus (and Jesus himself) used a greek translation, the Septuaginta. (I was told a pretty bad translation - not sure) But since we do have a lot of different manuscripts, we CAN look at the differences to sort out the original text scientifically! The amazing thing for me is, that Isaiah is the book preserved bc. And IN Isaiah are the most amazingly correct prophecies about Jesus. (Especially Chapter 53) I will research that more, but I was told, that the New Testament was never put together, it more developed together and at one point it was fixated. Were there other writings available? Yes! Were there debates about some books? Yes! Are all the other writings bad? I don't think so. Are some of them bad? As far as I was told you could easily mark a lot of them as fictional in contrast to the bible. (I was told to read them myself in an english translation - need to find time for that) Are there textual variants? According to my research a LOT! Are they significant? To a very minor degree. Do we know the original message of the text? YES! Why? Because we do have so many (10k manuscripts before 500 bc if I am correct). Side-question: Why did so many manuscripts survive persecution? If you really want to go deep here, I recently learned so much from Dr. James White kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn2TgWmpfZWWgK8 "But all of this was written down very late!" (not quoting you, but quoting sceptics in general): Was it? I have heared many very different datings of the gospels and other books. One thing was very interesting: One reasons why some scholars date some gospel after 70 bc were prophecies about the fall of Jerusalem which happened 70 bc. If we examine a book claiming to have prophetic messages, can we examine it scientifically assuming prophecy doesn't exist? It seems like the oldest NT fragment is P52 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rylands_Library_Papyrus_P52 ) dates 100-175 ad and writes about Jesus beeing accused before Pontius Pilate by the Jews and them wanting the death sentence. Most of the New Testament was written in Greek and and a lot of the preserved manuscripts are too. So only the translation to english by scientific historians done (if you use a modern translation). Also the talmud mentions Jesus. (The talmud are lots of jewish writings from Rabbis compiled 400 or 500 bc.) Another question: What did the writers of the New Testament books gain from writing down fiction? Most of them probably died as martyrs (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJ3XeqqdmpV_n6M ). infanticide? I really don't know what you are reffering to. Do you mean Genesis 22? If yes please read the story until the end. I agree that there are plenty of mass-killings in the bible, mostly the old testament. But culture changes. We gladly don't life like people did for example 800 bc and at least I can't really imagine life back then. And if it is cruel, does it make it less true? Please clarify: * What exactly about Noahs ark do you consider proven not true? Can you link some research? * What is this "billion dollar industry"? As you see I an very critical of my faith. Why? Because I belief it is true and therefore can stand the test. If it isn't, then I don't want to belief in it! I just want to ask you: Are you as critical of your faith? Do you do your own research or do you just copy non-scientific claims? Because I really belief that the correct answers to this questions are vitally important: How did it become that we are here? Are we here for a purpose? Where will we go? For me it doesn't make sense, that out of nothing, something became. Eighter: There has been something for all ethernity or there IS nothing and there will be nothing for all ethernity. For me the bible IS reliable and true and that basically turns my whole life upside down! It greatly reduces the amount of bad things I do (still plenty left) and makes me focus on others instead of myself. It also tells me that I never need to fear since god who is more powerful than any object of fear is for me! If you want good ressources for evidence for the truth of christianity, I recommend connect.rzim.org, I learned such a ton of them. (biased of course) Have a nice day (or night, evening, whatver). Gabriel

Ok so I know being jealous is a sin...call me envious but the giggling in this video made me long for friends like you two! I miss talking to others my age about Christ. I miss smiling over a coffee or reading the bible together, going through impressions etc. Well maybe I miss laughing together the most, but at least I can talk to God... I guess I just feel stale in the faith, if that makes sense. I try to keep close to God but I think Christian friends are important. My friends all moved on and there aren't any youth groups of younger Christians where I live. Anyway, thanks for all your encouragement.. P.s I only just stupidly realised you wrote the bible verses in the description- TYSM because I was rewinding all the videos to catch them ;)

These are such great ideas -- I've found such spiritual help in similarly "surrounding" myself with words, verses, symbols, and art that remind me (even unconsciously!) of the truth and God's protection. I also really love more traditional religious icons of scenes and figures from Scripture, and saints, since often I find can sort of enter more deeply into them with my senses when they are visually present to me. And lighting candles is also great!

Becca, have you heard Kristene Dimarco's song "Fear Not"? If not, then you definitely should give it a listen. The whole album is good, but I love that song. Also, something to keep in mind about Ephesians 6:17 is that the word for the "word" of God in that verse is rhema, which is the word that God is saying in the moment. So that definitely can be Scripture, but it's important that we are attentive to what He might be speaking to us in the moment. I probably don't need to tell you that, but I think sometimes people's idea of the word of God is too tightly associated with the Bible, even more so than Jesus or what God might be speaking in the moment. Okay, I'll step back out of the controversy zone now. I definitely like this style of video! It's a good blend of formal and informal.

FarAwayDistance okay this is random, but I thought you might like this story of something crazy God did for me on Friday. I had just finished seeing the latest God's Not Dead movie (best of the three, in my opinion), which is called A Light in the Darkness. Then I went and picked up Steffany Gretzinger's new album, Blackout, which has the lyric "you can't turn out a light that's shining from the inside." So that is the setup. I'm just leaving the store where I bought the album (which is just a few hundred feet from the theater), and pulling up to an intersection to turn onto the freeway. I live in Minnesota, and the license plates here are 3 numbers followed by 3 letters (e.g. 123 ABC). So I'm in the rightmost of 2 left turn lanes, and there's one car in front of me and 3 cars to my left. I just happened to glance at the license plate of the car in front of me, and I see that it's a 777 plate. I thought "wow, that's pretty cool - what are the odds of that." But of course the odds are easy to figure out: it's a one-in-a-thousand chance. Then a memory popped into my head of a story a friend told me of how God had done something completely ridiculous with license plates to make a point to him - something that you would never would think could happen, but it did and was clearly God doing it. So I was remembering that and thinking "yeah, this is an interesting coincidence, but it's nowhere near that level..." And then the notion popped into my head to glance at the plate of the car to my left - the one at the front of the leftmost left turn lane. I kid you not: it was a 666 plate. Thankfully I was able to quick get a picture with both license plates in it before the light changed, so I have evidence to back up my story. But it was pretty cool to me to see that God has no problem arranging a literal one-in-a-million chance to make a point to me. He is so good! (Sorry for the long post)

I just added this to my extensive playlist called Spiritual Empowerment Videos which includes motivational speaking, testimonies, documentaries on overcoming addictions, and videos just like this. One of the best decisions I've ever made as a Christian, next to my Media Discernment Binder, in which I resolve to entertain myself in a smart and responsible way like a discerning Christian man. It's stylish but also very extensive and I use a combination of Plugged In, CommonSenseMedia, the ESRB website, Christian Anime Alliance, with me throwing in a few of my own interpretations in the mix. For example, I always read the Plugged In review and briefly pray before going to the movies with friends or watching a movie at home, even if I've already seen it before. The funny thing about it is that when I was 19, just a few years ago, I thought it was A-okay to go see Fifty Shades of Grey which is total dumpster-sludge smut that's completely cancerous to a spiritual mind. I update it on a regular basis. :D One love y'all! :D

Mere Christianity is amazing! I try to look past Lewis' period-typical misogyny, but other than that, its wonderful

Some good fiction books I have enjoyed were 'Heaven Sent' & 'Summer Fades' by Amanda Bews (age 15+) and lots of books by Melody Carlson! Some of my favourites were 'The Jerk Magnet', 'Just Another Girl', 'Anything but Normal' & 'Never Been Kissed' these books are more in the 12-15 age range :)

I didn't know you're a teacher. You look very young! I'm a teacher of English here in Argentina. I've also been thinking about making an impact on my students' lives (reflecting Jesus). If you could give some advice (or sth that has worked for you)on this it would be great!
