been using nordlocks for years. A must have in underground mining high frequency rock drills. A little tip tho.... dont reuse them. Yes you can reuse them in a pinch but save your self the drama and just chuck a new one on. when you undo them is rounds over the ramp between the 2 washers. once you go nordlock you wont use anything else.

Yup.....ramp lock washers. Use them for a while and have not had any issues. Love your work...keep it up
@garymallinson22926 ай бұрын
Nordlocks are great, Basic principle off them is that the ramp is steeper than the the pitch of the thread on the particular size bolt, therefore the slightest bit of wind out and the ramp up nips them tighter, however, avoid putting them straight onto a painted surface, the serrated sides don’t always work with it and will eventually rotate nullifying the design intent of the two ramped faces, I’ve been witness to lots of vibration to testing and seen them wind out for this very reason, and i guess in a high temp environment the issue could be exsasperated, spot faced surface tended to work better for us in the subsea industry.

Give you a tip from Ultra heavy diesel and marine field, use longer studs/ bolts by 100% if possibly have the room, with a thick wall steel spacer, this can also in most cases be used with a tin lock plate between to adjacent bolts that is tapped over heads and deformed hole keeps double secure, inconel bolts are best if can get them, reliability with this system is extremely high, just from experience in 2000+ hp engines

I’ve used nordlock washers. Found they aren’t to good on a low torque installation. High torques seems to be fine

Nordlocks are OK, find they split after time in high heat situations. You ever look into longer bolts in sleeves, see that quite common on large modern diesel's. Believe its gives you more tension due to the added length and works like a stretch bolt in the head. Either way, if it works it works

Been watching this channel for a while (even though I have an OM642 powered Merc!) but as I work for Nord-Lock I have now subscribed! The guys at drift works also have the washers on the V10 e46 build....great product, loads of applications, nice to see it in real world use too rather than industrial projects 👍🏻

Mind you the material they "eat" into needs to be soft enough (Rockwell 50 iirc, but mind you I don't think you'll find that on most parts of an engine). Also make sure you to inspect both sides when you've disassembled them to be make sure they haven't worn too much. Other than that, nordlocks are pretty much the only non-chemical solution to have stuff stay in place.

The stock ones are Cu, but how about those stainless steel bolts? Do they break the aluminium thread? And what nm do you torque them?
@Blub23 жыл бұрын
Socket Head Cap Screws, which are also known as Allen head screws. They are not bolts. You insert the tool in the head so its a scew. If you put the tool around it its a bolt.

I need some of these washers because I just installed a new exhaust manifold and gaskets on my engine but the bolts keep loosening. I think I may have put too much antiseize on the bolts too. 🤯

So I figured I'd hit you up to ask you a question on a video with a limited amount of comments you seem like the person everybody is talking about when it comes to the Mercedes diesels I am out here in the USA Implanon doing a compound turbo setup on an inline 6 Mercedes I'm well-versed with the Cummins and have and have done a ton of mods in house with those I have access to either and 94 3.5 L diesel or a 87 3 l i have had a handful of the 87 but I have never owned a 3.5 my plan is to change out the injection pump and at a compound turbo setup I'm just curious on how strong the internals are on the 3.5 and realistically how much boost that short bursts can the Head handle seeing how close the cylinders are to each other what's your thoughts

Man this video is what i needed, unless there is someone here that can tell me different. my problem is the locating bolts and shock absorber bolts are discontinued for my vehicle, so I have to get other bolts ect. one thing i thought was instead of lock tite put some epoxy jb weld on the threads to act as a stop, but the bolts are for the subframe to the bushings on a fwd car. I have found grade 10.9 bolts to suit the shock absorbers (flange bolts) however im unable to find reasonable flange bolts for the 120mm length i require. hence im looking up different types of washers to secure the bolt firmly in place. so its not gonna come off when im driving down the highway at 60-70kmh. so the thought is hex bolts with flange nuts and two sets of these washers to ensure it stays, along with the jbweld i think should more than do the trick any advice on this?

Has anyone found a good source for bolts of any type with holes in the heads for lockwire/safety wire. Its we used in the USAF on almost every bolt on the airplanes. I've only ever seen them on high performance brake rotor to top hat interfaces in the automotive world.

Workshop hack: Little do people know but there is a hidden feature in every bolt to lock it. It's as simple as hitting the bolt with a hammer while on its first thread before using the biggest bar you have to tighten it home ! Itll NEVER come loose !!!!

I’m surprised that works to be honest as i’ve seen those anti slip washers but they were for hi vibration applications not high heat. The high heat obviously expands the length of the bolts which, added with vibrations makes them susceptible to working loose.
@240d30W1153 жыл бұрын
they work fine on high heat
@WhiskeyGulf713 жыл бұрын
@@240d30W115 I never said they wouldn’t or don’t, i am just surprised is all. Maybe the expansion rate of the washers is higher than the bolts ? In the past motor manufacturers used copper nuts because they expanded more than the steel exhaust manifold studs.
