Thank you Simon! I’m three weeks in and life is great. Sat watching ‘ bake off’ last night with my ( adult) daughter and she said ‘ mum i haven’t heard you laugh like that for ages’. And it’s true! One thing though, I still have problems with sleep, I can’t imagine how even more fab life will be when that’s resolved. You’ve completely changed my life 🙏🙏🙏

I love this Frances - have you watched the video I did with my teenage son? If you want some motivation to never drink again - watch that one! Sounds like you are doing great, the sleep should settle, it is a big change and you need to allow time to adjust. You will soon be experiencing better sleep than ever! I am on month 15 no more drink....its my 2nd or 3rd time quitting. Worth every minute of struggle, I feel amazing! I was a big wine person. Finally I realize how wine lied to me. After glass one, started to feel like crap.

Thank you so much. I'm on day 3 after years and years of alcohol abuse which has progressively worsened. I'm now 50 and don't want to do this anymore. Your books have helped so much and your FB group too. I relate to you better than I do to some other sober coaches; I think because I was an at home wine drinker - this went up to 3 bottles a day and I had started to drink in the mornings too. The physical symptoms I've been getting are scary so I am giving it my all this time. I've tried before but always gone back because I've stopped journaling, reading, reminding myself of how awful things were and how much better they already are this time around. I must not get complacent this time!

And by now, you are hopefully on Day 10 and through the roughest part! Sobriety is really the gift that keeps on giving. But definitely, it requires work and self-care. It sounds like you are on the right path, using resources and our community for support. Thank you for letting me know how you are doing. You can do this!

I just love the flavor of a good red blend. I don’t drink it to get buzzed or anything like that I just love the taste of it. I equate it to how I have friends Who must have ice cream every night just because of the flavor. But unfortunately because of the alcohol content it’s not good for me which is a darn shame. I would drink it if there was no alcohol.

This is the start of my journey. I love your honesty! These are really great tips. I was listening to your video about the train. In my mind I kept saying get off the train and get a salad. Get off the train and draw something. Work on getting to a point where I don’t get on the train. I’m gonna check out the books.

I cannot fathom drinking a bottle of wine (or more) per night. I would be asleep after finishing most of the bottle. It's a delicious beverage with a good meal, but I can't drink a lot of it at one sitting. My tolerance and consumption have stayed the same for most of my adult life (one to two glasses of wine most nights).

I’ve been drinking for about 40 plus years and started drinking more after I retired. Approx 1 1/2 bottle every night, my craving was exactly as Simon described. I wanted to slow down but not impossible. But about five months ago, I started taking Vitinity Anti-Alcohol Drink Support supplement (Amazon), and sometime switched to Kudzu. My alcohol craving has greatly decreased just after a few days of taking the supplement. If you combine Simon’s approach with these supplements, I think you’ll good result. I’m now still craving for red wine at night but only need a few sips and I’m ok. Good luck

Thaks for this very valuable information. Which one works better the Vitinity or the Kudzu? Or do you take both?

I drink a bottle and half because menopause took my ability toFall asleep away . Wine It knocked me out . I was refused menopause treatment by my doctor. I can’t fall asleep until at least 4:00 in the morning. I wake at three in the afternoon . My life is about existing not living . I wish for a breakthrough but it doesn’t exist yet .

I know that I can participate socially without drinking, but I always chose not to. And then yes, I always regret it. I definitely know it's the wine that is making me eat late at night, which is causing my weight gain. That to me is DOUBLE TROUBLE! I'm never satisfied with one plate of food, or one glass of wine. AND, the combination of the two is so delicious to me.

Simon, you and your peers always talk and write as though everyone drinks due to anxiety, depression, lack of confidence...and say that "everyone thinks that alcohol tastes bad" (at least when you start). Not true. I've liked the taste of beer, wine, straight scotch, vodka, etc. ever since the beginning when I was a tot. And I drink/drank because it's fun, tastes great, and because it makes food and snacks more enjoyable! Drinking games are fun, too! No mental issues needed! However, after 58 years of drinking, I have cut back 98.5% (only 4 days with drinks), for the past 18 months due to wanting, as a 58 year old female, to get in better shape (I am very athletic), give my brain, liver, skin a better future, break the daily wine habit, and minimize "slow" days! So far so good. But, for the record, I do still think it makes everything more fun, and is tasty, haha!😢

Thanks for your comment, Vanilla. Yes, I do mention this a lot, but only because I am drawing on my own experience with why alcohol became an issue for me and being relate to others who have anxiety. I do completely agree with you that people become addicted for a whole host of reasons. The key is realising when the fun has stopped and it has started to become a negative to your life.

It gets to be a major habit that is hard to break. If there's alcoholism in your family, it makes people susceptible to falling into the trap. (It's no excuse, but alcoholism does run in families. Brain chemistry and all.) Have you told your Mum that her drinking upsets you...(makes you afraid, worries you, however it does make you feel..) Ask her if she's open to getting help. I don't know what your relationship is with your Mom, but I wish you and she all the best. Try to keep loving your Mom but if this gets worse and worse and worse...you will need to ask a trustworthy adult to help. Especially if she's driving drunk, or you are not getting fed or you feel like this is your responsibility. It's not. She is the adult...you are the young person. You should not be in the position you are in without someone ( who is a GOOD person) to help you.

You are saying people that are drinking 2-3 bottles of wine per day should stop drinking any alcohol overnight?. Is it not very dangerous for your body if you suddenly go from that to zero alcohol? I would have thought a period of reduction before going fully sober is way more sensible?

I drink with my wife 1 bottle a day each of wine and share a pack of Marlboro lights before I met her. I wasn’t a drinker and I would probably have a cigarette once a week if that played sports 10 years later, I’m alcoholic and I have to drink every night whether it’s a good night I say it’s a celebration if I make some good money if I don’t make good money, it’s a depressed celebration, I don’t know but I’m ready to stop. I look at myself I don’t recognize myself anymore. I’m overweight now and my drive is down tremendously before I die. I have fatty tissues over my body now lumps all over my body and I know it’s due to the alcohol but I can’t stop in the only way I feel like I can socialize when I drink, I went to go watch a movie with my cousin and his wife and the whole movie. Thing I can think about is drinking.
