Been getting up 3-5 times a night for over a decade now. Quit smoking, alcohol, eat better, don't drink after 6pm and drink a ton of water every day. Urologist just told me to go back to sleep when I wake up. Easier said than done. I've just accepted that this is my life now 😞

Prostatic artery embolization (PAE) is a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure that treats an enlarged prostate. An interventional radiologist performs the procedure on an outpatient basis. Assuming it's a prostate issue, of course.

For menopausal women look into topical estrogen to help with frequency of night time urination. Atrophy of the urinary track is common when estrogen drops.

If you have high cortisol levels and high blood sugar levels, you’ll need to urinate often. Implement calming techniques during the day to regulate the nervous system. Eat a balanced diet and cut out sugars, alcohol and processed foods. Your sleep will improve.

When I was in my early 20 I would get up 8 to 10 times to pee and this was before I was able to fall asleep, I would get so angry and sometimes cry out of frustration But there were a lot of things going on in my life at the time that caused it
@Rob-bq6ek3 ай бұрын
My 3-2-1 advice would be no food 3 hours before bed, no liquids 2 hours before bed and no artificial lights 1 hour before bed. You can use blue blocker glasses at least two hours before bed even better. Also, high sugar or cortisol levels disrupt sleep as well. And, don't do vigorous exercise close to bedtime. Make sure room is as dark and cool too.

QUESTION.... what do you think about somebody who plays the radio real real low all night long with real relaxing music while they're trying to sleep does that hinder your sleep or does that help your sleep
@TheSleepDoctor3 ай бұрын
I'm probably the only sleep doctor in the world that says it's OK to do something like that. It is genuinely calms your body down and helps you lower your heart rate (and thus get to sleep) then keep doing it

Hey Doc; just discovered your channel, I’m really a fan already (partly because I have tons of sleep issues). I’m surprised in this video that you didn’t mention probably the #1 cause of nighttime urination for men, and that is enlarged prostate. This is (potentially) really serious and ought to be checked. As for me, I stop drinking ALL fluids 3-4 hours before bed, which really is key (I’m 69, BTW); If I slip and have a beer or water a few hours before, it’s with the understanding that I’ll likely be up to pee at least once. Thanks for your channel, looking forward to taking your sleep quiz on your website. Thanks a bunch !

Thanks for weighing in on that, I sort of lumped enlarged prostrate in with the section on aging but you are right it really is a separate issue. Maybe Ill do a video on just that since I had a patient deal with that recently
