Very good commentary I usually just see my dog as disobedient so I must say I’m guilty of just thinking In Grown up mode. We have a very large field by my house as we walk and instead of letting him roam and run in dog mode I insist he walks with me like a good little dog….definitely a missed opportunity to see a change in his behavior. Great video and tips

I just got my two year old German Shepherd from the city animal shelter. My last dogs never ran away. My new boy, once he's off his leash, runs away. I have 111 acres and me thinking all would be OK. I was very wrong. He ran all over, and it took an hour to catch him. He ran across a state highway. My neighbors helped me catch him . I keep him on my front porch. He is fenced in. When I feed my chicken's ducks, rabbits, and goats, he gets out and chases my goats. I hit his food bowl, and he comes back. He was returned back to the rescue due to being difficult. I asked if they had a dog who was there the longest . That's why I have him. I had a dog who used to run off. He never got out of his behavior, I let him run, and he came back. This dog won't listen. What to do? I am still able to take him back, only, I love him. Help, please.

A dog with high prey drive especially an independant breed is always going to take off when seeing 'prey' because no reward can be higher than running after some prey. Okay, maybe a shock collar would most probably work,

I have two Anatolian Shepherds that keep getting out of my fenced 40 acres and running for 5 or more miles, I have tracking collars on them so I can always get them back or they come back but it's extremely frustrating. I've tried to fix any dips in the fence but my female scours the fence line to find any weakness to get out, I have horses and donkeys but they could care less about staying with the herd. Please help, my male won't run off on his own but he will go anywhere with my female.

Soooo not sure. You say in a fenced in area doesn't always work, but if your dog runs away from you how will you get them back? You have to start somewhere and I would think somewhere like a fenced dog park would be good?

My dog sometimes run away to eat. How to deal with that? My biggest issue is her looking for bones or bread under trees or people windows. And teatching a leave it doesn't seem to be any help since when she is off leash, 50-100m away from me I don't have a chance to notice before it's too late to tell anything. I wish she would be like others dog in that aspect... They just go somewhere close or sniff, she is straight up hunting for leftovers. Its like she is starving even though she eats as much as we can offer her to keep her weight :|

Your getting into all the psychology but you never went into any info on how to actually teach your dog not to run off. No commands no training tricks no anything. Sorry but this wasnt helpful at all..
