In this video I talk about the causes and consequences of obsessive cleaning, and I share the blueprint I gave to the client I mentioned in the video which helped her to stop obsessive cleaning.

Having suffered many years with OCD myself , not hand washing though , and living with someone who also had OCD but had obsessive hand washing [ was a crazy relationship ] . She would wash her hands till they bled . With all the conversations , especially lately with the corona virus , being told every hour on the news to wash your hands often confuses me on how does someone with OCD deal with this . The relationship i just mentioned was long over before this topic became more relevant

I am always exhausted with my obsession with cleaning and having my house the way I want it . No matter what I try I cannot stop and I get so angry when it isn’t the way I want it , up to my standards of clean . But - I’m afraid it’s going to negatively impact my child . I can’t stop

I haven't been diagnosed but when I'm not cleaning hours per day, I'm thinking "but I haven't done this, this needs to be done" and it's a long list from removing dust from walls, gardening, removing limescale, mopping. I live in an old four bed house so cleaning never feels done...

Thank you for this video, I have been aware for some time that cleaning has taken over my life and gradually taken 'living' from me. I clean 3-4 hours every day if not longer either in my business or my home because I honestly thought it was what I should do. If I don't it makes me very anxious and angry with myself and those around and feel I am losing control, something bad will happen or I won't get approval. I am also very aware that none of that makes sense. None of us are really in any control, good and bad things happen anyway and I don't 'need' the approval and yet I still do it day after day for over 10 years. But I want to stop this destructive pattern and start choosing how I fill my day. I find cleaning and sorting to be quite relaxing and therapeutic when I do it on my terms but 80% is not. So I will definitely try what you suggested a little bit at a time to try and be happier in myself and for those around me, thank you.

My compulsive cleaning definitely came from my childhood home life. My parents verbally amd occasionally physically abused me constantly, only stopping when i was cleaning. Cleaning feels safe. I have battled this my whole life. I go from compulsive cleaning, cleaning over 8 hours a day nearly daily, to so depressed that my room becomes filthy, its a vicious cycle. Ive never seen it as an addiction but that mindset helps me see how its truly a problem. Appreciate this content

My House cat which we usually keep outside our house, But stays in our compound and outhouse with it's kittens came inside our house which is normal for it to come and lay on couch. Later it went upstairs to was doing something on my computer table where I later shouted at it to get down. It didn't do anything, although I cleaned my table with a wet tissue with dettol solution and also sprayed sanitizer, But still I am Obsessed whether I need to clean my whole computer table. Although my Table is dusty which I don't worry about Native Dust, yet so much worried about Foreign Contaminant.

I have this issue: I am terrified of mayonnaise and sauces like that like aioli sauce. I can't eat a burger and just wipe my hands with the tissue just like everybody else. I have to go to the washroom and wash my hands with soap. Why is this???? I don't have a problem with other sticky substances like chocolate or other types of gravy. I have only problem with mayonnaise. Why is this?

What if I only feel the need to thoroughly deep clean and disinfect everything everytime I have guests in my home.I suffer of MS for almost 10 years now and I think that the thought that people will bring germs on there clothes then sit on my couch for example,or germs on their socks and step on the rugs. With my condition I am always cautious about germs especially in my house because I feel that this should be my safe place. If there are times/weeks when nobody comes over I just clean normally, don't take on all the extra steps of steaming, disinfecting and washing everything up. Any advice on my problem? Is there any point for my behaviour? I wish someone who knows about my condition would tell me that is pointless and I should stop doing it I would be the happiest and for sure more relaxed.Thank you in advance

I need to hear this myself too, so I'll tell you too. There is no point in going the extra steps when cleaning. Disinfecting the door handles (and just because there is corona) is enough. If you wear slippers in the house, there is nothing to be afraid of. Clean up only what is necessary. And by necessary I mean what's made dirty. For example plates and cups and the table. Lots of love and strength! ♥️

My partner's obsessive cleaning (in my view) has become extremely burdensome to me and no matter how hard I try to clean, cook and generally over compensate by averting more stress in my partner who obsessively cleans it is counter productive. I find it exhausting and that it kills spontaneity, joy and the very freedom of thought and spirit which constitute the essence of the human experience...to live free of obsessive cleaning and ordering patterns which make life itself sterile. 'An icy tundra' yes interesting analogy treading on eggshells...the sad thing is that my partner is a lovely generous and kind person but I feel that she has been brainwashed or at least conditioned by her Swiss German upbringing where obsessive concern for cleanliness is a generally socially accepted neurosis...where people are obsessed by cleaning in order to indulge neurosis and here is the great irony Swiss Germans are not that efficient when the y clean as they focus on talking about the process as opposed to getting a result...which product should I buy...how to clean and what implements...who cleans best....and they re-clean the same towels and sheet over and over again using huge amounts of time a resources on the process...they adore and are obsessed with telling others what they should do...and criticizing others for failing to use the correct color rubbish sacs or not placing them on the street at the correct hour or not keeping one's car clean or God forbid stoping for an extra three minutes in a parking areas limited to a certain time frame....it is absolutely exhausting to live in such an environment!!!!!!!!!!

Why a video of how to stop OCD cleaning? It gives me the stress that pushes me to seek happiness which is cleaning. I love cleaning, it's my meditation, my answer, my solace. I don't see anything wrong with my little tendencies. They look at me like I'm weird, but once I educate them, and they learn that my way is the best way, they get it.

Cleaning and obsessive cleaning are two different things.Just like occasional drinking vs alcoholism. The cleaning you are talking about is normal like a hobby,OCD cleaning is like being addicted to cleaning, unnecessary cleaning, not being able to stop thinking about cleaning.I suffer from this and it affects my daily life

@serenata998 there is a difference between ocd cleaning and cleaning. No one here say you should stop cleaning. But there comes to a point where the obsession of the impossible goal of a perfectly clean house becomes destructive. Unless you live all alone, this obsession will hurt your relationship. Also at an individual level, the quest for polish home is more of a wasted human potential. There is so much more for human development and experience than the pursuit of a spotless home.

@@magikarp308 During the making of this comment I would clean about 10 hours a day. My whole life stopped cuz my home was never done. I could never reach my full potential cuz where was I? At home cleaning. I had dreams to make music, save children from child predators, dance or finish study but instead I would be cleaning cuz my home was never done. I lost my life to cleaning... Am I worthy of watching this video now?
