One thing I make sure to do when I go shopping for clothes is I have to absolutely be 100% crazy about it to buy it. No excuses. No "Oh it's just a tad bit tight across the top, but it'll loosen up" or "This isn't the exact color I wanted, but.." or "It's a bit short but I've always wanted this kind of skirt/shorts" etc. That keeps me from buying stuff that I know will either get worn only once or never touched at all. I have to be "OMG I LOVE this top/dress/jeans, it fits perfect, the best color, and it will go with everything!".

I absolutely love watching your videos on minimalism!! I am learning so much!! From so many areas!! First, shopping!! I am recovering from over shopping!! I think part of the excitement is getting packages in the mail. Everyday I don't spend on something "extra" I make a note in my diary. It's starting to be a bit easier, but funny how triggers are still there. Best advice from you, unsubscribe!! So companies don't get me on a buy 1 get 1 half off!! I keep watching your videos over, they are extremely helpful. Thank-you again!!

I think this is a great thing you are doing here! It's positive and up building. You can easily get swallowed by the trends of mundane things and advice like such help you stay grounded. I personally live my life this way already when faced with financial hardships in the past, some may feel is not possible but it is! I didn't even know they had a name for this, I just like to call it a simple life so you can focus on the important things that make you happy and are worth while. If more people lived by this principle they would be more happy and stress free! Keep up this great channel! xo P.S. Love your bedroom by the way, elegant yet clutter free!

Big compliment on your videos, I think it's great how you give your advice but stay realistic, especially with girls and shopping. The shopping sure is pricey at the end of the month. Great tips, gonna try and focus on them from now on. Something I would advise girls watching youtube videos (thought of it when you mentioned the unsubscribing from newsletters) is not to think we have to buy products being raved about on youtube and our favourite youtubers use. It's something psychological to think that when we buy a product a youtuber we love uses, that we somehow get prettier and more like that person. It may feel that way the first time we use the product, but with time it fades and goes away. That's why I think it's great when youtubers just say that they're using "a bronzer", and the actual product and brand is only mentioned in the decription box.

Something im finding very helpfull is to make a list of the items i want to buy or that i feel that i need in my wardrobe and everytime i go into a shop i look for those particular items. It helps to not get sidetracked by other things that we initially dont want. I also use this chrome app called Shoptagr where you can bookmark (on online shops) all the clothes you are pining for and when/if they happen to go on sale you are imediatly alerted, this is very helpfull as well because it allows me to buy things that i really want but that i think are overpriced and to just save a bit of cash in general!! Your videos are great and im going to implement some of these tips very soon, thank you so much for sharing :)

Since I am a very visual person I use the free App "snupps" to keep my purchases in sight. I can create virtual "shelfs" and put my "items" in there with pictures, add information about the price, and were I bought it. I got one shelf for everything I purchased like cloth, jewlery, shoes, make up, home supplies. And another one with pictures of my bigger goals wich I am saving up to (like a vision board on my phone kind of) It really helps to remind myself of my possessions and value them even month after I bought them, otherwise I might just forget about them. It compares my short term temptations to my long term goals very handy.

Hello!! Wondering what your 4/5 favorite shops are that you mentioned? :)
@salvagemania8 жыл бұрын
Something that has helped me to keep myself from spending is to look at the cost of an item in terms of how many hours I had to work to afford it instead of simply looking at how much money it costs. If you know you had to work 40 hours to afford a $300 dress, you will know instinctively that you really need to love it in order to justify purchasing it.

One thing I like to do is have the store put the items I want on hold until the end of the day or so and then continue on to other stores. If I still really want it, I will go back and buy it, and if not, they just hang it back up. I've saved a lot of money doing that :P
