You should never leave ANY DOG loose in the house when you're gone if they have destructive mindsets. thanks for the video. You're right on the exercise and walks! A tired shepherd is a happy shepherd and happy owner!

Disagree. It's OK if you're gone for a short period of time (1-3 hours). But for this particular breed, perhaps more than 3 hours is when they might start destroying things at home depending on your GSD.

I’m at a point where it doesn’t matter if she runs all day, or stay indoors all day, she will still destroy items. I have severe anxiety and I stress this dog. Idk what to do, just 5 seconds out of my sight she’ll climb the counter and do weird things that are not normal. It’s a old behavior that has surfaced once again at her later year’s.

What did you do for training? You need to start day one with a sharp NO! every time they do something you don't like. Never too late to start. You have to be on them all the time until they improve.

I acquired a DDR GSD in trade for a 1990 Buick. 3rd owner, was supposed to be a police dog but failed, apparently for prey drive and alpha mega. I was able to bend him back into shape in almost 2 years of intensive training and human socialization. He still won't tolerate four legged. Best guard dog in the world today... Major... DFWM video

I have a 8 week old german shepherd and he tends to destroy things when I leave him closed in the kitchen for the night. He get so stressed and cryes a lot... my first week with him and it is the most difficult thing. Don't know what to do more... I don't have a crate, but the kitchen by night should be his crate... I even let the door opened for him to be able to go outside. But he sees me closing the door and boom.... Don't know what to do really :( I exercise with him in the pateo, he can't go outside yet. Any tips? I believe I confused him by trying different options for him to sleep in: 1) in the kitchen closed but with music - then I did the worst thing of going there to calm him during almost the entire night.... god... i wish i didn't do that. 2) everything oppened except our bedroom, 3) kitchen with light on but door closed, and 4) kitchen with light on and door oppened for him to do outside. Now I don't know what to do, because I want him to stay closed in the kitchen or outside when we leave home.... any tips? do I still have time to correct this? Thank you!

How are things going with your pup now?
@Goneinsane616 Жыл бұрын
A crate. Is what they need. Freedom for pups are really bad. They get the freedom when they are older. You wouldn’t leave a new born alone all day unsupervised just like you wouldn’t leave a toddler out your sight. You sacrifice a little when they are younger. And then you have the best dog in the world. The first night with my puppy he cry. And under an hour he stop . And the second night under 5 mins he was done crying. Don’t give in. They are not hurting. Your hurting them more by going to them. Yes we want to comfort them. But only do it once they are done crying. ❤

It's like leaving your baby in the kitchen lol. Again this story reminds me that dogs aren't TOYS or "fur babies" dog is a dog.

We bought a German Shepherd to be a companion to our first dog. She’s a year old now. They have a huge yard outside to play and rough house in. We thought that would be enough exercise…? They’re constantly running and playing! But anytime my husband leaves anything in the yard, she tears it up! She kept biting through all the water hoses this summer and made my husband furious! 😬 Is it boredom? Anxiety of being left out there so much? We bring them in in the evening and they almost immediately go to sleep. It’s like they’re off duty, not guarding the yard, and they relax and sleep. They’re not looking for attention. So we’re not sure what she needs. I have energy struggles and my Hubby is working a lot, so walking them a lot isn’t an option. Do we just need to bring them in more often and give them more attention inside?

We have a rescue German Shepherd, who is about seven months old. She’s extremely loving, but she does have separation anxiety if we leave her in the house. She will tear up the living room, then we tried leaving her in our room because she’s so connected with me, and she tore up our room and bathroom. She jumps at the bedroom door and will tear stuff off the top of our dressers. Now we try not to leave her alone. She was abused before we got her and extremely malnourished to the point where you can see her hip bones through her thick coat of fur. In a matter of a week to a week and a half time I managed to get her to put a little bit of weight on so now her hip bones are not protruding as much as they once were but still a work in progress. She is also extremely territorial at times. We have two other dogs and our GSD will jump up on my bed and not allow our other dogs to get up on the bed. She even growled and tried to nip at my 4 yr old son when he came close to me while I was sitting on the bed. I am working at training her but I’ve never drained a GSD before, so is there any tips that you could give me to help correct these behaviors?

Your post is 4 months old and I will still chime in. IF you still have ur GSD you need to hire a professional trainer to train you to learn how to train dogs. It's not rocket science and anyone can do it if you will just follow all the basic rules. You did good by jumping on KZbin and looking for answers that is a start but in your post there are so many things that you need to work on a reply here won't solve all of them. Awesome job on being a rescue momma. Good luck.

I’ve always had dogs growing up of all different sizes and breds. My most common was German shepherds and German Shepherd mixed. I currently have four two full breds and two mixed Germans . They are separated due to a dom fight a few years back (which isn’t a problem cause I’ve made it work for years now). Their split in two sides of the house, so I have a full bred on each side of the house and a mixed with the other so they have one another in both groups. My first group have never had any issues since they were puppy’s. Never ate furniture or anything. Most they have done is jumped at the door when they were excited to go out to the yard. My other group however have always had puppy problems. My full bred is the youngest and she’s 2 years old. She tends to jump on the doors a lot and scratches them really bad. And my oldest is with her and he’s always been very mischievous. He jumps up on the bureau eats the couch and reclining chair and whatever beds we’ve gotten for him. He stopped doing this for maybe a year but he’s getting a little older and the habits have come out again. I will say I definitely need to play with them more but the thing that confuses me is my other group of dogs have way less time outside cause they have to be brought out and they normally just go potty and want to go back in, while my other group have a slider door access which leads to them being out almost all day other than the hour or so we bring them back in for breaks. It’s snowy and cold so I can get why they’d be upset now but I’d go outside for atleast 30 mins and play and run with them but it just seems like nothings enough for them. They play fight constantly and where I have a “puppy” in there she tends to have the puppy bite with my oldest and he goes back at it. They don’t get hurt but they can play a little too rough for my liking and I’m not sure what to do. I’ve tried using the stern no, redirecting and I feel lost. I want my puppy’s to be happy and to live a good happy life but it’s getting really hard and I feel like I’m at a loss. I know this is really long and no one will probably see this but if you have any recommendations I would appreciate it so much

Might be an old video, but I learnt a few things. Too be honest I didn't want to commit my time to a dog, but my nephew kept texting me about a coworkers German Sheppard. He knew my dream dog was a gold and black GS or a Husky. Nayla been with me around 2 months, so around 11 months old. She has been through a few households, and gets quiet submissive when I scold her. I will never hit her, but the last two weeks, she has been very destructive. Let her out in the morning, run home at lunch for a quick walk, and depending on her behaviour, half hour to hour walk at night. I can never tire her out, even at -30C we have taken 2 hr walks on weekends. Just fed up with all the stuff she left alone prior, she is now getting into. People tell me to get another dog, or put her in a kennel. So well behaved when I'm home, maybe dog house outside when I'm gone.. Weather is getting better, and the cold doesn't seem to bother her, she just loves being outside

My German shepherd has broken my front small grass window pain out four times . Every time someone walks pass my house she acts nuts ! Don’t know what to do I’m scared she’s gonna hurt herself or someone else . She is 4 and a half hours old I loss my husband last year and a half ago to stage four pancreatic cancer and she was doing this before he passed as well . She’s so protective over me it ain’t funny and yes I walk her everyday since she was 8 weeks old and she has a huge big yard to run in .

I guess I'm lucky. As long as I exercise mine for 1.5 hrs a day (usually it's just a long 1 hour or 1.5 hour walk). If I walked it for 1 hour, I'll play catch with a tennis ball for 10-15 minutes. It doesn't mean my dog is depleted of energy, but he won't bother me when I'm working on my computer or doing chores at home. I've never had any issues with my dog destroying stuff at home. If this is an issue, it'll be in the backyard and that's if I'm seriously gone for many hours or something.
