I enjoy propagation, but struggle moving plants out of my house. It's not that I can't part with them, it's that I'm a hermit, and hardly ever see people to give plants to.

As someone with a limited space, it is really important to compartmentalize the things within the hobby. When I started I just collect all the plants I see that I don't have. Now I am starting to curate my collection and investing the time and energy to make my plants pretty with pots, stands, etc. I feel like almost all of us fall on the hoarding of plants in the start of our journey 😂

I am extremely stingy with my plants, especially those that I have propagated. My biggest problem is that I’m surrounded by people who are only interested in my mature plants, those that I have had for a long time and become extremely attached to. None of my friends seem to be interested in cuttings. But your tips make a lot of sense. I gravitate towards consolidating multiple plants in a singly pot. Thanks for sharing.

Don’t think this video was for me or maybe it was JUST for me lol. I have 200+ plants and love them. I’ve definitely slowed down but I still have a large wishlist and will still buy a plant that I love. I also try not to shop as often. But, I’m no where close to being ready to downsize.

Thank you so much for sharing and just in time Becca!! I went from wanting an all over apartment jungle, to sometimes getting tired of caring for plants to finally, realizing that less is more and so now, I am sticking to my small plant collection and if I want more plants, I'll just propagate and or divide my current plants!! And if I want a different plant, I'll swap cuttings with my Mom!! I saved her purple Oxalis plant, N'Joy Pothos plant and Coleus plant and I took divided stem cuttings from them so I could return her plants, so happy with these GORGEOUS plants!! And I'm giving her my Fiddle Leaf Fig, Red Anthurium and and Red Begonia cuttings potted up!! I know she'll love them!!❤️🥰

The one in/one out rule is honestly my lifesaver because not only does it help keep my count in check, but the realization that I will have to get rid of something if I buy that new plant helps me really weight out whether I really want that new plant or not. Double putting the purchase into perspective 😊

I'm all about rehoming plants that I've fallen out of love with or weren't what I was expecting. It's been a journey learning what type of plants I really love... I've been "influenced" to buy some plants then found out I didn't have the right conditions, or they were pest magnets for me, or they just required more from me than I could give. I can almost always find someone willing to take them off my hands. And I love giving props of plants I'm excited about to friends. Sharing is caring! 😜

I love this video. I hate that a lot of people focus on consumerism and getting more and more! I love the thought of not always searching for the next plant and instead expressing gratitude and taking care of the plants we already have and getting them to their highest potential! Even though that has been very hard for me, I have found the plants that I gravitate towards and only keep plants I truly love! Everything else goes! Thank you for your videos!

Pleaseeeee share your wishlist with us❤ And about pottery classes… I would definitely encourage you to go back to them! I’m a perfectionist myself, and I’ve been taking pottery classes for the past 9 months now (omg time flies). It has helped me deprogram that unhealthy side of perfectionism and enjoy things I’ve made with my own hands. You said it yourself: one of the values of handmade pottery is that it is, well, hand made. One learns to appreciate those imperfections as unique traits of your own creation✨

I am so glad that you were tackling the topic of over consumption through many of your videos! I practiced what you said in this video today; when I was rearranging a plant space, I could’ve easily bought new plants to fill it, or I could just take plants that I already had, and put them in a better place!

This is so relatable. The buying crazy of 2020-21 really got me. Now I'm at the point where I want new plants but I don't want anything that I come across. It's honestly weird sometimes. 😅 So I redecorate, rearrange, chop and prop (more sparingly than I used to). Upgrading my displays with decor, nice planters, trellises, macrame, thrifting cute glass trays, etc. has been my favorite thing recently. Oh and my number is hovering around 140 if anyone was curious. 😂

In the last year I've made quite a few changes to my collection to make it feel less overwhelming, here they are: 1.I put similar plant species into the same pots. So heartleaf Philodendron together, epipremnum together,Maranta together, crawling Philodendron together, etc. This saves me a lot of extra pots, so I can still have more varieties, but with less hassle. 2. I moved a lot over into pon. I mostly did this so I could go on vacation for 2 weeks without having the need for someone coming into the house to water them. But that also means, I now can forget about my collection for 2 weeks and be fine, but when I'm in an overwater mood, it's also fine. 3. Of course I downsized a lot. I went from about 90 to now 40 pots. I have 48 species (So I saved 8 pots with the first tip.) I didn't want to have a house that looked like I'm a plant hoarder. Now they all have a nice place, without being overwhelming or in the way for visitors.

I've been into gardening for years, but finally got into houseplants about a year ago. I collect houseplants more as decoration, than having my house look like a nursery. I have no desire to upkeep 100's of plants. As cool as very large leafed plants look, I know I have no room for them, so I don't collect them. I still have a wishlist, but it's small.

This is something that i have been thinking about too. I've recently retired and I have been adding to my succulent collection that i have had for a few years. I really love the plants and enjoy propagating them, but I think i am almost near the limit. Do like the idea of getting one and giving one away though.

I am looking forward to warm weather so I can place some plants out for free. I have some I have chopped and plan on just keeping the top. I also do have some plants I have divided, etc. I don't like having 2 of the same plant. I also have mailed some plants to family members in other states. Anyway, I don't know how many plants I have, but I do continue to buy some though I try hard to talk myself out of making purchases without knowing where I will put the plant. My space is limiting and some plants have grown up to take up much more space than they did when I purchased them. With a young child you have other concerns which is opposite myself as I am retired with too much time on my hands.

You're the cutest. Great tips! My capacity is probably the 25-30 range at this current time in my life. I've really had to focus on more basic plants that are really easy to care for. Love you videos!

When I moved across the country 6 months ago, I downsized from 60 to 30. Some of the plants I had had since I started collecting in 2020 and no longer really cared about. It was actually a really healthy downsize. Now I get to collect more rare plants. I’m more excited now. Also, a big supporter of repotting duplicates and cuttings together. Can’t wait to see your spring growth ❤

I love to propagate and then gift them to people who are new to houseplants. I usually remind them if they can keep it alive longer than a bunch of flowers they're doing great and that takes the pressure off. I also decorated both offices at work with an indoor jungle which brings lots of joy to others and calms a busy and clinical environment with greenery and life

Everything you said is so true. I work from home but am nearing (hopefully) retirement, so I have to consider that my whole routine will be changing, and how do all the plants fit into that. It's already impossible to go away for very long, but at the moment I don't need or even want to leave. But that may be changing. You provided some great food for thought here, thanks!

I started in 2019. I had about 110, was really obsessed. Now I have about 80 because of death…my now philosophy is benign neglect. I think now about weeding down to ~40 would be an ideal number. I’m not collecting unless it’s reasonably priced and relatively easy care. My latest is a stromathe triostar.

You are hilarious, and yes you have failed like most plant enthusiasts! They are relaxing having them and the various things we do to take care of them! My collections is much smaller than most youtube plant enthusiasts. My plants are more spread across the house in various natural window areas with just a little limited supplemental lighting (like around my cactus).

hmm plant capacity of 100 because it´s her full time job. And there is me with a full time job, a kid and about 120? plants 😅 I have a few I want to add to my collection, but I´m am sort of at my capacity, soooo I add them and keep all the other, but hope and just don´t over do it 😂 I love propagating and am so happy that I go to a small plant swap each month, otherwise I would drown in plants and cutting.
