Good video for someone who needs to see it, but I've ran across a blade skipping/jumping across the glass even after I replaced with quality blades. I found my issue to be not the blades itself but actually the wiper arms themselves being tweaked ( excessive force put on the arms, crazy ex ripping off wiper arms etc.. ) but the arm on my driver's side was twisted just slightly causing the blade to not rock back and forth across the glass during the wiper blade sweep. Readjusted the arm and no more noise. That noise drove me insane!!

Trick to give your wipers some more life. Like he said in the video, your wipers squish to one side after a while. Slightly lift the blade, move it an 1/8" and drop it back down such that the blade is now leaning in the opposite direction. Do this when you know you won't be using your blades for a while (based on rain forecast) and your blades will sit for a week or more helping them heal. If you do use your wipers, just repeat the procedure after you park.

Excellent tip. I've haven't done that, but I sometimes watch when I shut the car off with the wipers on to catch it on the up stroke. That only holds the wipers the other way until I start the car again though.

This 100% worked for a well known and very irritating juddering issue with OEM wiper blades on Mercedes cars and SUVs (new or old blades). This hack cost all of $9 for the Polish and 10min of my time. It saved my sanity as well as $40 vs the other recommend solution (which is to buy aftermarket Bosch blades). Thank you!!

This make so much sense, thank you. So I found that when I blast the windscreen with the heater on full heat the noise begins to stop but after a while comes back as heater is turned off, so softening the blades with heat will work as this will allow the blade to flow rather than push against. Also this is a brand new car with brand new wipers could also be standard of blade.

Chris Fix has a video on super cleaning a windshield. The effect is as you described: “Hey! Where’d the glass go!?”. He uses wax, and I’ve had mixed success with it, partly because I think I let it sit too long before buffing. The water comes off the glass so well you don’t need wipers over 40 mph. I’m going to try Nu Finish

Appriciate the video, but in most cases, it's the angle of the wiper arm that needs adjusted. Iv'e tried evrything...premium blades, etc...and after intense research, found out about the angle being adjusted. It works even on old wiper blades. Cleaning like this, is very temporary.
@SmoknJaysGarage
@SmoknJaysGarage 10 ай бұрын
The cause is typically the blades themselves that had dried out rubber from the sun. It has absolutely nothing to do with the angle of the wiper arm. Which is not adjustable on any vehicle I've ever seen.

Just twist the arm slightly by gripping the flat part of the arm close to the attachment joint. twist in millimeters until the blade is perpendicular to the windshield, then you get the correct "flip-flop" effect of the blade on the glass. No need for creams, gels, waxes etc

I had used Rain X in the past to get a satisfactory result. However, I got a similar idea as yours months ago. So, I cleaned the windshield really well, and applied Nu Finish... I did not get the result expected. So much that I cleaned it really well again to remove the polish. Might give it a second try. (By the way, we seem to have the same model of car...). I just put brand new OEM Bosch wipers two days ago, and the driver side (as too often the case whatever brand I put on) is way too noisy. Will give Nu Finish a second chance...

One day my wiper suddenly skips so bad that it causes the wiper to come off from the wiper hook and it leaves bit of black goo all over the windshield. Tried to align and adjust the angle of the wiper, nothing. Tried clay bar on the windshield - not much difference. Bought new wiper, same skipping noises. Then tired and at my wits end, I took a bucket of water and one bottle cap of car shampoo, give it a quick wash, the noise gone!
@hgodtx
@hgodtx 3 жыл бұрын
Basically you are "lubricating" the windshield/wiper contact point so it's a smooth wipe which stops the skipping. You can also get certain formulas of windshield washer fluid that help with this "lubrication" scenario. When it rains, and you first turn on your wipers and notice the skipping, just pump a little washer fluid out there and it should stop. Yes, washer fluid even if it's raining. Obviously if it's a downpour it's pointless! If you are doing this, it probably means you should polish your windshield or replace with new blades. Anyway, here the full scoop on this concept.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnnGkpijaaqNo80

Doing this is fine if you have a brand new windshield. If you travel, freeways or highways, your windshield will be sandblasted from dirt that the cars in front of you have picked up and this paste will be stuck in the minute chips in the windshield glass and cause a haze that will make driving into the sun very miserable.

Another thing that will cause wipers to skip no matter how good they or your windshield are is setting them too high (too short a delay between wipes, or even using continuous when you should be using intermittent--something I really hate when I see other drivers do!). Polish only improves the contact and seal to the windshield. It’s really only general maintenance. A slipping wiper means there’s other mechanical issues. The angle of the squeegee must be as close to a 90 degree angle to the glass as possible. Search “windshield wiper angle” to view pictures. You can also turn your vehicle off with the wipers in mid stroke to see the angle of incidence.

If the blade is not sitting perpendicular to the windshield the chatter will occur. I bend the wiper arm, not the blade in order to get the the blade as perpendicular as possible. 99% of the time this alone fixes the chatter. There are plenty of videos showing how to bend your wiper arms using two cresent wrenches. Don't do the one wrench trick becuase your putting pressure on the wiper transmission pivot which will eventually damage it. Try it, you will thank me.

I waxed my windshield with regular paste wax, out of curiosity. Now im trying to find out how to remove it. I clay bar'd it for 30 mins and washed it with soapy water but its not comin off. Can anyone help an idiot out?.

Adam's polish makes a wax remover. I've personally never used it, but it might be worth a try.

What’s your thoughts on RainX? This a better method for windshield maintenance?
@SmoknJaysGarage
@SmoknJaysGarage 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't compared rainx personally. But I have heard that if you use it, they can't repair chips in your windshield. At least that's what "the guys in the little red truck" told me.

Typically because the rubber is dried out and conformed to the curve of always sitting in the down position. Sometimes you just need new blades.

Yeah but what he doesn’t tell you it will leave a thick ass cloud on your windshield in high humidity, and the wiper will still streak if it’s a slanted windshield. My Finish isn’t for me.

I don't say that because it isn't true. When properly applied, I have found no negative side effects of any kind. And I've been doing this to all my vehicles, twice a year, for quite afew years.
