Great video man. My local video game arcade was deano’s pizza, at first I just played games there then I worked there when I was old enough. A lot of good memories of getting off work taking some tip money getting quarters with it and heading to the games with a beer.

When you peel a sticker or label and the layers start separating you stop and try to peel the sticker from another direction so that you can get the layer that began separating in one intact piece. Same principle for the vinyl backing.

Aladdin's Castle and Just Say No arcade place closed down for me back in 2000. I also use to play in the Indiana mall called River Falls Mall and the whole 2nd floor was full of arcades and later on that mall closed down too. Now there is no place to play arcades and i'm in Louisville Ky.

Hi John's Arcade. I feel your pain with the closure of lanes and games... and pinball wizard..Have you been able to revisit fun world and try out the full screen galaxian?Maybe try to check out a certain pinball club in southern NH. Keep up the good work!
@tracycampbell45267 жыл бұрын
Wow! At some point, you've got to take a step back and just start over. Indeed, it is not a good idea to get the paper backing wet. I've also never had good luck using the wet method on an unpainted, unsealed particle board surface. Even a little moisture causes the swelling, which leaves a texture under the vinyl. It may not show up immediately. I did a mini Stargate with vinyl side art. The sides were baby-butt smooth, but I had sanded through the paint in some places. A few hours after laying the perfect vinyl (wet method, using RapidTac), the texture of the MDF started pushing up where it soaked up the moisture. I ended up with small patches of rough under the vinyl. Great video, though. I feel your pain. I have yet to stumble across the perfect method. Each time I do it, I learn something new.
@Johnsarcade7 жыл бұрын
Ha, yeah. This was stressful. I couldn't start over. I didn't have enough vinyl. Luckily, I put down polyurethane to prevent the wood from absorbing the rapid tac.

@donnyf127 жыл бұрын
Newer material also generally works better than old stuff. You can get the Oracal vinyl for not much more and the quality is far superior to the cheap brands. I use the 651 series. I know this doesn't help you much now...

What is the purpose of Spraying the particle board with the polyurethane?
@Johnsarcade7 жыл бұрын
+Hunter Romanoff it's what they did initially. It's basically to seal the wood. I figured I should put it back since I removed most of it when sanding and removing the old art.

Hey John, you mentioned a good while back that you might do a video on vectorizing. Did you ever do this? If not, would you still consider doing it? Your skills are very apparent! Thanks
@Johnsarcade7 жыл бұрын
+Donny Fontenot I never did. And I should. I thought about doing a video for the Radical skateboard. I might this winter.
@donnyf127 жыл бұрын
I've done a little vectoring in inkscape but I'm certainly not 'good' at it. Even a quick-and-dirty would be cool. I know you've got a lot of irons in the fire all the time so even an over-the-shoulder type video would be cool for me and probably a good bit of others too. Thanks for all the content you provide. All the best to you.

Rich does a demo of installing full side vinyl and he suggests using heat gun to soften vinyl and pull it around corner into t-molding slot. This way you end up with nice corners with no lifting. I think he shows it on a Food Fight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoOxo4ykna2FY8U

@shovelhedded7 жыл бұрын
Haha, it can! do a shoot out and see. Alternatively quickly wave a magic wand and throw out an alacazam before you mix it. I've heard that helps. I used it for my Tron inner art and it worked beautifully. I'd only ever done dry install before but the Tron windscreen is a nightmare.
