I grew up in the era where all I had to throw was plastic and rubber. Because of that, I have around 400 full roller revs and always needed to use low-end resin equipment. (Brunswick Power Groove and Ebonite Stinger were two of my favorites). Unfortunately, due to age and injury, my ball speed dropped from nearly 19 mph to barely 14 mph. Because of that I moved down to 15 lb. weight and now have an arsenal of all plastic balls. A pair of Pyramid Pathogen Blue Dots (one drilled for early hook and smooth finish, and the other for skid/flip), and a Target Zone for when they hook too much. I am soon going to add Radical's The Spy to the arsenal. As for their effectiveness, I am currently 11-10 on a PBA Experience league with a 190 average, and I finished with a 205 average in my house league last winter (it climbed 20 pins over the year as I got used to the new equipment).

Can you make a video on how to strike with urethane after throwing it for 2-3 games?
@travishanson1662 жыл бұрын
A radical Spy won me a tournament over the weekend. Used it mostly for spares, but knew I was going to have to strike with it at some point. When my hand/forearm gave out on the OTP, switched to the Spy and strung 4 to win the championship with a 247. The spy allows me to play through the burn when I dont have enough strength left to keep moving left with my stronger balls. The pin carry is sick. Textured Plastic asym with dynamicore, probably going to need a few more by the end of the year lol.

I love to train with my plastic ball. But the problem is, when i throw at 1st arrow, always get broklyn. What should i do? Increase speed? Or move parallel to the left?

I use my radical the spy plastic 14 pound bowling ball with dynamic core technology in the bowling ball as my strike bowling ball it's it is a stronger plastic bowlling ball then the regular plastic bowlling ball Brunsnick tzone with no hook at all so yeah you should review one on your bowling channel the radical the spy plastic 14 pound bowling ball and the hammer black widow viz a ball plastic bowlling ball 14 too on your KZbin channel ok Michael Coffey ok

Did you add surface to them?
@BetaCuckAlpha2 жыл бұрын
Do you maintain the surface on these balls? I find the shiny surface on my plastic balls wears down pretty quickly. Do you polish?
@michaelcoffey4 күн бұрын
@@BetaCuckAlpha for a spare ball yes but I'd I'm trying to strike I just clean it off and let the surface do what it wants. It will be more consistent that way

Went bowling today and NEVER broke 75.. I used to bowl 15 years ago and carried a 155 average. Now I'm older (67) and can't hit the side of the barn, but then again, I was bowling on wood.. Even with plastic, I sucked at it.

I found your video very intriguing. I'm a senior bowler with a relatively low rev rate (250-300 rpm) so my guess is that I would need to play first arrow or even closer to the channel to strike using plastic. Your thoughts?
@nordattack3 жыл бұрын
Funny you think 250-300 is a low rev rate. My rev rate is 145 and ball speed is 12 mph off my hand. On a house shot with plastic I will be playing the 5 board down and in, letting the pattern take the ball into the pocket. Plastic will retain a very high amount of energy rolling through the dry part of a house shot and hit very hard. The trick is the keep the ball high on the headpin. Higher than you would for a resin ball. You want to play direct. Attack the headpin straight on.
@janderson84013 жыл бұрын
A lot depends on your speed and the lane conditions. Most senior bowlers that I know lose speed as they age but still have the same revs and rotation. I know when I fool around throwing my spare ball for strikes, outside of first arrow there’s not enough oil. It will either hook so early that it goes Brooklyn, or it rolls out before hitting the pocket.
@clowny23962 жыл бұрын
@@janderson8401 I've raised my speed as an older guy recently. I have been throwing at around 14 to 15 mph on spares with plastic or a Storm Mix urethane ball. Incorporated a more relaxed wrist and went from 5 step to a 4 step approach. Now my ball speed is somewhere between 18 and 19 mph. My back swing hasn't increased and I'm not working hard to get the speed either and virtually no loft. Ball rolls over the thumb hole most every shot.

I used to bowl with plastic cover bowling ball but honestly I used yeralthane DV8 Pitbull and it s rally nice it’s getting to the pocket sooner to the pocket and higher quality products has been on Marketing at the pro shop at my local Bowling Alley heatherage

I don’t want a hook with plastic. Not a good demo for the real sense of using plastic balls. I want to see using plastic balls as a spare ball only and where to set up with it. Thanks for taking the time to show your skills with plastic. Good job with that.

I'll go training with my spare ball now, that will help me as you say to fine tune all my process, if I strike with that I might strike with mostly anything as well... just a question, I'm new to bowling (1 year) i'm in the stroker or rev chalenged realm with a 175avg lol, how many days a week its reasonable to train and for how long, I'm really hooked in this thing and I would like to play in a higher level. Thanks in advance for your advice and greetings all the way from México City.

Should be using a WD or TZone as they are by far the most common.
@michaelcoffey4 күн бұрын
@@williamhaynes2414 it's not the ball. It's the plastic coverstock that is the point of the video. It's about understanding how you use the coverstock to it's greatest potential. It's not about having the same ball as me.

I apreciate this. I just came back to bowling after 11 years of not being able to and I got a Tzone and an old maxim for plastic balls and I gotta say, when the lanes are like BURNT BURNT, Its nice to be able to throw a plastic down 10 normally. Instead of having to make drastic changes to my approach and axis to hit pocket with my reactives. I have my tzone at FF and the maxim is at 800 grit and they come with me to every practice session now.

I was doing one step drills with a plastic Columbia 300 ball and I threw a six bagger. There going 8-10 mph and walked in. I wasn’t trying to strike. It just shaped and flushed the pocket. It may work for bowlers with slower ball speed on house shots if the outsides are dry.
@richardprice77632 жыл бұрын
My Columbia 300 white dot just won't turn at all. My local centre has very dry lanes and I was told that a plastic ball would be best for those conditions, this may be true but the damn thing just goes dead straight every throw...all I can do is just aim for the front pin and hope for a lucky strike once in a while...
