When tying flies we use an item called a whip finisher I think it would make cleaner looking knots and prettier ones as well. just something u might want to try out

A bobbin threader would be handy too.

You do great minis but that goodness you are not a mircosurgeon! From now on all my wood elves shall have strung bows. A labour of love.

So glad you did this. Thanks for doing it Chris! Had to stick it out to that Momentous Successful Finish! They look so good when they're strung like this. Great stuff

Very clean finish on your model, very nice.

Very nice job! Seems like it would make more sense (and be easier) to not have the string go back to the mini's hand since there isn't an arrow nocked. So the sculpt would actually be capturing the moment after the arrow was let loose.

+CaptainSlow Yes, I was going to say the same thing. Also, the bow isn't bent. Seems to me this is taking a model where you mentally erase the string because it's too small to model, but then by adding it back make it alarmingly obvious he's about to shoot an air arrow. Having said that, of course, this is pretty good micro-work. I was curious, though, there seem to be several points where using the second crocodile grip would have made the whole thing easier.

Great video. It's good to show newer painters that thingbs don't always go perfectly. I cracked up when you mentioned Ray Charles.

Well done, I applaud your patience and after all the trauma, it's well worth it!! Look great!

Two suggestions - 1. learn to tie a clovehitch, much easier to secure the thread onto the bow under tension before applying glue and only needs one knot to secure. 2. Use EZ Line. This elastic thread is awesome, comes in three main colours black green and rope - not easy to find but perfect for this job. ( 100 feet roll for approx £9.70 ) Great vids - keep them up.

i use a strand of hair for my bowstrings, works well with a dot of ca to hold it in place. i have strung figs bows down to 1/72 scale

Thanks for the Video! The model looks awesome as well. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to string 20-40+ bows for archers... x_x
@r4venmoon12 жыл бұрын
Great job. I think I will try artificial sinew for mine so I can give it a twist and it has a "wax" tacky feeling so it may help it look more like a real bowstring and may also help with application.

nice :) I enjoyed the video and reminds me of tying flies or me fishing :). End result looks worth it though... some day I might try this with my Orc Boyz and Bretonnians :)

This way looks nicer, but if you ever really want to do your 40 orcs or bretonnians, just superglue it

Good patience dude! Addictive viewing. Now how about the arrow? :)
@IshanDeston7 жыл бұрын
Probably don't need the answer anymore, but you can make an arrow, depending on the size of the model with wire. Gardening wire for example. You just have to straighten the wire, snip it.. use it as shaft. Use epoxy putty for tip and fletching.

Another way to string it and not have to make the knots is to take and make a small needle hole in the part of the bow where the string would be. Can heat it slightly push the pin in making a very small hole. Using super glue and the needle push it down into the hole let it dry for a bit repeat on the other end. It takes a bit of getting used to but it looks good when done right.

PVA glue is better, because it doesn't mess up the paint job as much if it gets onto the model. I've tried stringing archers before, but it failed. I got he ends of the bow attached to string perfectly, but I never thought to drill between the fingers. That's atually really useful, thanks. :p
@hydra6613 жыл бұрын
may i recommend - cut a longer length of string. Drill your holes. Then rather than threading through the hands, tie the first double knot and glue before threading through the hands- that way you can just use 2 hands to tie the initial knot which should save you a couple of minutes. For the second knot, go round the bow, pull back 180 degrees then tie to maintain tension

if you look at the shape of the bow, its not bent, but the hand is back. this suggests that the arrow was just shot. continuity ftw

want to see him make a straight beehive knot on both ends.
@IshanDeston7 жыл бұрын
Nice idea... but watching you fight that knot i kept wondering "why isn't he putting a dab of super glue on the thing to secure it that way...
@TheFisher197313 жыл бұрын
just a suggestion , but why not make the first knot , then thread it through the hand? might make things a lot easier.

I do the same but use a brownish thread also heat uo the bow slightly to get that pulled back look. As far as the arrow (yep gotta have an arrow) I find using a hot glue gun dab a bit and slowly pull leaving one of those runners they always leave. Find one that is the right diameter and length let it dry take a tiny bit of glue add it to the end make it into an arrowhead and a tiny feather on the other end again let it dry. Now paint it up and carefully add it to the bow. I see guys send hours painting the most beautiful archers and they never string their bows and add an arrow. That's as bad as having a ranged gun type weapon and not drilling out the barrel. Nope awesome looking model and then they just dab a bit of black in a circle on the end of the gun. WTF why spend all that time on a figure to ass it up in the end like that? Take it farther make it better you can do it. Or Yu kin du eeet depending on where in the world you live.
