Very awesome you will be taking med-surg next semester....it really isn't that bad as long as you stay organized and study. I found that people who struggle in this class tend to rush and study at last minute, which doesn't give them a lot of time to digest the material. As I stressed in the video, get a study guide book and practice NCLEX style questions in the content material you are studying prior to exams....this helps a lot! Also, don't forget to check out my lecture tutorials and free review quizzes that will help you in this class as well: kzbin.info/aero/PLQrdx7rRsKfWwTsEG3KPPQx9rWa8AqMIk I wish you the best :) I hope you enjoy your winter break, and have a very Merry Christmas!

I'm in med surge right now. We just had a test on the respiratory system and I did not do so well. Previous students who mad my teacher for med surge told me to read EVERYTHING, that's the only way to pass. When my teacher lectures, she does tells us what will be on the test. But it seems like some things she says will be on the test or not on theres and what she says will not be on the test is. So I guess I do have to read the whole book. But I have to pass all my next test otherwise I wont pass. Also, she does not teach from powerpoints everything is off the top of her head.The first test was just getting a feel of how shestests. 5 more to go. wish me luck

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience in med. surg....it is a tough class...I remember taking it as a nursing student. There is so much to know in such a short amount of time. Personally, I think the best way to study is to use a study guide book specifically for medical surgical nursing and practice NCLEX medical surgical questions on the systems you will be tested on prior to the exam. I didn't spend time reading my textbook word for word (it wastes valuable time you could be spending studying other material). Are you using any type of study guide book (like Saunders or Mary Ann Hogan) to help you prep for the exams? These books break down exactly what you need to know from a nursing stand point and focuses on material that will be on exams. I wish you the best and hang in there...I know it is rough ;-)

thank you for the info. Im having trouble with the exams. i studied(with all the resources i have) and feel prepared for the exam, but the score is not equal to the amount effort i put in. It is really frustrating. my professor told me that im a very concrete person, it may be one of the reasons that im having trouble with the exam questions. any tip?
@RegisteredNurseRN8 жыл бұрын
+Zhitian Li Thanks for your question! I totally understand! Med-surg is a difficult class and many students struggle with it (so you're not alone). To help you start thinking critically rather than concrete, I recommend that before each exam that you practice 100s of NCLEX-style questions over the content you will be tested on. For example, if an upcoming exam is about cardiovascular diseases I recommend you practice 100s of NCLEX questions about this material. Many study guides have thousands of NCLEX practice questions and you can choose what topics you want to test in. You will notice that some of your professor's exam questions will been testing you on the same concepts as the NCLEX practice questions. What study guides are you using?
@MultiBallache8 жыл бұрын
+RegisteredNurseRN i have the davids success. im taking basic med surg now. we just had diabetes. the lecture covers only the basic concept of type 1 and 2 diabetes and medications. the professor did not go in too deep such as DKA, HHHs. we will learn those in advance med surg. The David's success covers everything. there are only 4 - 5 questions in that section fits my level of knowledge. i feel that the David's success questions are somehow easier comparing to the exam questions. I am not sure where my professor got the test questions from, for some questions the way they are worded are quite tricky.the first exam i got 80%, but base on the effort i put into study, i think i can do better than that.
@RegisteredNurseRN8 жыл бұрын
+Zhitian Li The first exam is always (to me) the hardest because you don't know how the test questions are going to be. I used the Saunder's NCLEX Comprehensive Review guide and it was great because it contains 1000s of practice questions in the book and on a CD.

Was this study guide you were looking over in the video the Saunders NCLEX book you mentioned? I have just finished my second semester taking med surg, pharm, and ethics, it was such a tough semester. I struggled throughout. So I am planning on studying everything over summer to stay on top of my game and to actually learn things I didn't during the semester. I always get worried I'm not learning enough. Your videos are very helpful when the explanations in the text are obscure. :D thanks

Oh god, I don't remember much from my previous classes😱😩 I'm going to fail Med-Surg!! 😩😩😢😭
@RegisteredNurseRN8 жыл бұрын
+Mariah G Thanks for your comment, Mariah! Oh don't worry about not remembering much from other classes...if you get a study guide like the ones I recommended you will be fine. The study guides will remind you of the Patho, Pharm, and Fundamental which is why I recommend them. I seriously couldn't have survived nursing school without them. Another thing is to practice lots of NCLEX style questions before your lecture exams. You will do great :) I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year :)

Definitely next semester I will purchase the Saunders book. Foundations questions are a lot difficult and yea it’s a lot of critical thinking so this class will be foundations on steroids with some patho application

Hello I’m 12 years old and I really want to become a doctor when I’m older and I have really good grades in biology and chemistry but I have low grades just in physics should I be worried and should I study for more than 3 hours a day .
@amykc3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I’ve applied for med school in the past and I would recommend you try to find new ways of learning physics like watching youtube videos that cover those topics. You still have a lot of time to learn so don’t feel pressured to master everything right away. I’m in graduate nursing and our schools don’t require physics as a prerequisite to apply.

+spannycat waffles Awesome! I have videos on how to study for those classes if you want some tips on how to prep for the classes. Also, I have a whole series on fluid and electrolytes (along with acid-base imbalances) with quizzes that goes along with each video. I'll post the links for you below: Pharm: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXimqYWVlp5pb5Y F&E series: kzbin.info/aero/PLQrdx7rRsKfWJSZ9pL8L3Q1dzdlxUzeKv Patho: this will be uploaded within the next month...finishing up some video requests right now I wish you the best :)

I have a question what if we are not provided study guides how can we study when there is so much information? I'm taking this course next semester and I am freaking out with Pharmacology, this course, and other courses and 2 clinical rotations.
@RegisteredNurseRN7 жыл бұрын
I would definitely invest in one of the study guide books I recommend in the video. They really breakdown the material and condense the content (unlike the 2000 page textbook haha). They also have practice questions with them that help you focus your studying. Study guide books were my best friend during nursing school lol.

Hey I'm newly subscribed to you're channel and was wondering even tho i have the saunder's comprehensive nckex review book 6th ed, would you recommend the davis med surg success book to practice nclex questions before an exam? or is it too much?... i already have these ati books and I'm afraid of getting overwhelmed....thanks for you're time 😊
@RegisteredNurseRN8 жыл бұрын
+TheOnlyMeekster Thank you so much for your comment and for subscribing :) Excellent question! Yes, I would recommend the Davis Med. Surgical book. It is a great book and many students find it very beneficial. It never hurts to have multiple resources so you have more NCLEX style questions to practice. I understand about not wanting to get overwhelmed...I was the same way lol. I think if you have all three of those resources that is probably all you will need. Study guides are what helped me prepare for my lecture exams. It would have been really hard to make it through nursing school without them. I hope that helps :)

+RegisteredNurseRN Thank you so much for replying...you're channel looks like it will be a help/guide for me also thru nursing school. I failed med surg before so really want to tackle it this time around. Thanks again!

+TheOnlyMeekster Thank you for your kind words :) I hope this channel can definitely be a resource for you.....I remember how hard nursing school was and I want to help all you nursing students out there get through those classes. Medical surgical is a hard class (all nursing students dread taking it haha) but those study guides should help. I look forward to helping you on your nursing journey :)
