Why have you chosen Family Medicine? I'm a F. M. resident in Romania... Here Family Medicine is not seen with good eyes, is not seen like a medical speciality. Now I'm so dissapointed that I don't know that I should go on with my choice.... :(
@drjennale
@drjennale 5 жыл бұрын
It is much different here in the US. I went into family medicine because I really wanted continuity of care and I love developing relationships with patients. Family medicine is never boring because: - I see children, pregnant moms, grandparents all in the same day! - I can do procedure like joint injections, biopsies, laceration repairs and much more. - I’m also very interested in women’s health and I am able to do paps and put in or remove IUDs/nexplanons. - There are also many available fellowships such as high risk OB, emergency medicine, palliative care, Hospitalist, sports medicine, and much more! These are just a few reasons why I chose family medicine and why I love it as a specialty. Do your due diligence, do what’s best for your patients, work them up properly. Other physicians (your colleagues) respect you as a good doctor.

@@drjennale You are right...it's very different in US. I've chosen this speciality for the same reasons, but here you can't make intra- articular injections or OG, you have to send the patient "to the expert". You can't make a lot of things because the patient himself thinks that you are not good enough for treating him well and your collegues also... 😔 It's frustrating, but I'm not gonna give up! Maybe I'll go in another country to practice and I'll solve the problem, we'll see! Thank you for your answer and good luck! ♥️

Hi, thanks for this video! I’m currently in the third year of medical school (in my country we have 6 years). tomorow I’m having my pathology exam, so it’s really nice to listen to your calming voice right now :D Thank you for your positivity and passion for medicine, you have helped me a lot to stay motivated and to see the bigger picture. Your videos remind me why I went to med school at the first place :) It’s also great to see doctor-mom here on youtube. I’ve been married for 3 years now and want to have a kiddo in not so far future. Seeing that it’s possible to balance medicine and family is wonderful! 🤩 You’re very inspiring person and great mom, keep going strong! Lots of Love from Czech Republic! ❤️

right now i am in college, but i really love doing my notes beforehand like that i can really focus on lecture and i’ll be able to write any additional notes on the side if my professor says something that wasn’t on the powerpoint but may be on the exam. a way that i remember material is by teaching it! sometimes i’ll have my sister or my boyfriend as an audience and i will “teach” them, and i feel more confident on the subject. i agree with getting enough sleep before an exam! getting enough sleep helps me stay awake during the exam, and my attitude is more positive than negative as well! 😁 btw i look up to you! thank you for being an amazing role model!

I agree about learning during clinical practice- I’m a new ICU nurse and I feel like most of my learning comes from hands on practice and patient encounters. I’m even more motivated to learn when I look around me and see nurses who are so experienced and talented. And a HUGE yes as well to doing practice questions for exams, that is what I focused on most for my boards.

If you notice that you keep getting a certain topic wrong, I would go back and relearn the material from that section. Try to understand the material rather than brute memorization. You’ll have better long term retention that way.

@@drjennale Can i know if you can be a generalist in the US (practice medicine after passing Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3 without getting into residency later)? All of you seem to pursue a residency program after your MD. Are you obligated to be a specialist or is it a choice? Thanks.

Even general practitioners have to complete at least a 3 year residency before they can practice medicine. Specialist training is an additional 1-6+ years

Your skin looks amazing! I was wondering, as DO, how did study for both Step and Comlex and how did you decide which one to take first etc. Thank you!
@drjennale
@drjennale 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don’t think this will apply to future graduating students with the merger. All programs are accepting both STEP and COMLEX scores. But students who were planning on going into surgery, ortho, ophthalmic, ENT, radiology, anesthesia, etc usually took book. Lots of my friend who match ED said they only too COMLEX and had no issues. I would recommend UWorld questions for STEP 1 and ComBank for COMLEX just because the question styles are specific towards each test.
@cty1037
@cty1037 5 жыл бұрын
@@drjennale Thanks for replying and for all the info! I am hopeful about the merger for sure! I think some of us have some anxieties that some previously allopathic residencies are more familiar with the step scores and might favor step scores. But it's very good to hear that a lot of people only took comlex with no issues esp as I am not interested in specializing!
@drjennale

I use the soft colored contacts called Fresh Look in pure Hazel. I just put them in in the morning before I do my makeup. And take them out before bed. They’re pretty comfortable and I don’t find them drying. If they become a little dry then I’ll just take them off a little earlier.
