Love the dry wall tape idea. Thank you for sharing. I might just be courageous and repot, my plants look great but haven't bloomed for quite a while.

linda andrie, You're very welcome. I'm glad the video is helpful. Good luck repotting your African violets. I'm sure they'll do well! :)

I like how the hand appeared to nudge the product placement. Also, new to me the screen suggestion in the bottom of the pot. My first attempt at repotting an African Violet I have had over a year in a basket with three other plants, my husband purchased for me. I will be sure to repot in about 6 months. It is very symmetrical and has new growth. I finally started it today to help jump start new blooms.

I could not understand the brand of soil you are using.
@HealthyHouseplants Жыл бұрын
Lauren Paparone, It is ProMix BX. Here is a link to it via my Amazon affiliate link: amzn.to/3iVIrjE I have added a link to the and another soil in the comments section, as well. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks for the video :) I have a question. When repotting an African violet and let’s say I’d like to go a size up, do I take a bit off the old soil and replace it with new one or do I just add a bit more new soil to fit into the new container? Also, how much bigger container do I use, or do I rather go with the plant and look for plant to pot ratio as you mentioned in the video. Many thanks ❤

I thought you were supposed to water African violets from the bottom and not let the leaves get wet?
@HealthyHouseplants2 жыл бұрын
Marlaine Holmes, it is best to do so from the bottom, but if you are careful about not wetting the leaves, you can water them from above. It also depends on your climate and time of year. If you are in a dry climate and/or it is a dry time of year when the leaves dry quickly, then you can more safely water from the top. Here is a video for more info on the various ways to water African violets: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHy4oqWLpq6ma68

Plastic, clay, wick pots is best for growing African Violets ?
@HealthyHouseplants Жыл бұрын
@vanschermerhorn7167, Plastic is best if you aren't wicking. If you are wicking, you can use any type of pot--with drainage holes--as the soil stays moist with the wicking. As for what is best, it depends on preference, and it also depends on climate. If you tend to not underwater your houseplants, but keep up on their watering, then a plastic pot works well. In very humid climates, it's sometimes best to not wick--as the foliage and soil remains very wet, and that can lead more easily to fungal disease. In a drier climate, wicking is sometimes better, as you don't have to worry about the plant drying out.

Where do you recommend buying African violets?
@HealthyHouseplants2 жыл бұрын
Tamera Coelho, A local nursery is often a good place to find African violets, as you can see if they are healthy and more easily choose the color that you want. You can find them online sometimes, too. I would check online reviews for them before buying.
