1- What did you do with the bottom portion? Wouldn´t it sprout and get a new plant? 2- Leca is expanded clay. I see you don´t mix it with soil. Where does it get the nutrients from?

African violets were my first love with houseplants. Beheading is kind of hit or miss. But sometimes you just have no choice. I look forward to the update from your experiment with leca.

Oh my Gosh. AVs were my first love as well when I was just a young child! I always need to have AVs with me.They are just amazing. Do you have any special care tips?
@kyrad6543 Жыл бұрын
@@TheLecaQueen I never grew in leca. So I cannot comment on that at all. My care tips were very simple because that was a simpler time in my plant care life! In the U.S., they seem to like an East-facing window. I watered once a week on the same day each week. I would dribble a bit of water on top and then fill their saucer from the bottom. Once or twice a year, I would top dress with worm castings. Other than that, nothing special.

@@kyrad6543 so simple right! I truly believe African Violets have been done an injustice! They are easy going plants.

@@TheLecaQueen Oh yes and they come in all colors, variegated leaves, and miniatures too. Plus they are fun to propagate!

Great stuff! On another semi-related note, I once watered my African violet with some water I had left out in a cup overnight. Keep in mind I had had friends over and we got pretty wasted… yeah. Then I smelled the cup afterwards… it was clear, white tequila blanco!! Not even mixed w anything! I poured it all into the violet’s pot. And guess what? Nothing happened to the plant! Absolutely nothing. I’m not suggesting we start feeding or watering our plants with tequila, but evidently one mistake didn’t matter… I was sh*tting myself that day, over a $3 plant. Lol.

Thank you for this. I just inherited an old African Violet from a neighbor who’s grandmothers passed. She knew I have a house full of plants and was hoping I could save it. I’ve never cared for these before so I’m totally lost but I’m going to give this a try. Love your page and energy. Keep the videos coming🙏❤️🪴

I am curious about the Leca for potting. Are all your violets in it? Where can I find those pots? The video is well done and very informative. Thank you.

Yes all my violets are in leca. You can use orchid pots but I make holes in normal nursery pots. Thank you for watching.

Hi Nora, I’ve had to do this to a couple of my AV’s last year in soil. I did nothing else: no humidity, no heating pad, no nothing. It works well after the AV goes into a stage of shock for little bit. I let all my AV’s dry out between waterings. I also lightly mist mine. Today the two I had to chop up look as though nothing has ever happened to them. 😊😅

Thank you for commenting. So glad to hear that your plants went well. AVs are very resilient and do not need the kid gloves we all think they do!

I have watched several of your videos and can’t seem to find information on the ratios for how much ccs for a specific amount of lecca and how long you soak your lecca in your CCS solution. After soaking your lecca, do you drain it and throw that solution out? Do you put fresh solution in your cache pot? Help!!
