Interesting enough, my mom has accidentally been locked in a freezer before. Only for a couple of mins tho! She went into a freezer to get food and the door shut on her and she had to call her friends to help get her out. She's fine tho

I fix commercial and industrial refrigeration and the most useful tip is missing from the video, which is how to safely turn off the freezer. Not all but many walk in coolers and freezers have an accessible thermostat inside the box which range from a rectangular grey box with a round dial to digital. Need to be careful as they're usually connected to high voltage power. If thermostat isn't in the cooler with you or inaccessible (behind the blower panels) you can try to find some object(s) to carefully jam or break the fans blowing the cold air inside. With fans disabled the cooler conditions will be much easier to survive and the built in safeties will eventually shut off the compressor too making the cooler even warmer. Some coolers even have high temperature alarms built in, which will help bring attention and speed up your rescue. Some idiot below recommended breaking the copper tubing to shut it off, but that WILL kill you. Pressurized refrigerant inside these pipes will burn you on contact and it's most often very toxic. When released as its vaporizes from liquid to gas it might suffocate you before it makes you sick in a sealed cooler. I wouldn't advise messing with the wiring, since it's all high voltage and being inside a cold, slippery, wet, metal box with metal shelving, is bad enough without turning the whole thing into a taser.

Another reason no to mess with the wiring is that you might end up in a pitch black freezing box and then you are totally screwed. Jamming the fans seems to be the best option.

@NR in '23 at least almost everyone has a flashlight in their pocket. Some even have other wearables like watches. Better alternative reason to leave wiring alone is the possibility of starting a fire and smoke inhalation in a sealed, confined space.

The very first step is to turn the thermostat all the way up if there is one in the freezer. You should here a click and it will stop cooling. Next is to find something to jam the fan blades with. Even if there isn't a thermostat inside jamming the fan blades will cause it to stop blowing cold air and eventually freeze up the evaporator coil... then worry about getting out or surviving for a few hours. Source: I'm a commercial refrigeration repair man....

Haven't even watched the video yet.... But as a refrigation tech I can tell you a really simple way to survive if you remember it.... Find something sharp or heavy and break the copper pipes leading to the evaporator (radiator) where the fans are. The whole system will quickly lose freon and it may stink for a while but you'll survive because the system won't be able to make the refrigerant cold. Also once the compressor on the roof overheats it'll smell terrible and attract attention. You live. Spend your energy doing this and you may survive. Now, get yourself stuck in a refrigeration trailer with the door closed and you're pretty much screwed lol..

Whoa, hang on. Disabling the unit may be a viable option, but trapping yourself in a enclosed area with freon gas sounds like a dangerous thing to do 🤔

@@clownsforclowningaround Depending on the type of gas used will ultimately determine the outcome of any intoxicating effects. R134a and r404a (most commonly used in these units) will only begin the onset of acute irritation if breathable air content drops to 12-14% which would require more gas than what's available in most units. Assuming you aren't in an extremely enclosed closet freezer, there's plenty of regular air to compensate. Also cold gas usually sinks being heavier than air. So if you'd stand up and not stir the air/gas mix you'd have a headache but not freeze to death. Happy surviving 😁👍

As a refrigeration tech I can tell you a lot of walk in freezer have power disconnects inside the walk-ins. Most look just like a light switch that usually located near or behind the evaporator. Simply turn the switch off. This will stop the fans blades from turning and stop the refrigeration.

Block the intake and outake fans or tubes with plastic or carboard, stick something in the fans, pull the power cord. Use cardboard and stick it under your cloths, get a paper write help me in ketchup or something and stick it under the door. Use a boxes as sleeping bags. Short out the power without getting electrocuted. Use something to bust through a wall, as they are insulated but may not be thick metal.

I am looking at this because someone was trapped in a freezer at work Arby’s. She was in there for 9 hours she died. .problem #1 she was a fill in manager and came in early. She was there by herself. No one should be in any workplace by their self. #2 apparently she didn’t have her phone on her.#3 she panicked. She pounded on the door til her hands were bloodied. No one could get in the store because she locked the door behind her. Not good. The employees who showed up for work, couldn’t get in and went home. The only reason she was eventually found was that the main office didn’t see any sales on the computer for that store. They couldn’t get in touch with her so they called her son, who also had a set of keys and he found her dead.

In my opinion I would feel really stupid sitting down and waiting, if I couldn’t open the door I would just try to get someone from the outside attention to open the door by telling them to open the door cuz it won’t open because banging the door is too risky cuz I might make people mad and I might get yelled at once someone gets the door open, likly for me so far at my job I only work 4 hours right now so I hopefully wouldn’t be in there for 8 hours but it would be scary regardless
