Wish I had watched this before my trip to Miami… cuz soon as my head went underwater it was like all the air was sucked out my lungs… it was so weird because I knew I just took a full breath. My husband started teaching me and he literally had me just practice holding my breathe and releasing air bubbles thru my nose and mouth. My take away… I learned to float no problem 🥰

there is ONE critical step (maybe 2) that you're missing. Floating to standing position exercises. This is where i am in my learning to swim journey and it's critical i think for being comfortable in the water as a whole... if you can't return to a standing position from floating on front/back then you're stuck 'dead' in the water somewhere :) thx

First off, I appreciate the effort and intention behind your swimming tutorial videos. It's clear you're dedicated to helping viewers improve their swimming skills. However, I've noticed a few areas where there could be room for improvement, particularly concerning the techniques demonstrated. In the videos, the swimmers seem to exhibit a somewhat lax technique in both the front crawl and breaststroke. For the front crawl, it's crucial not to swim with stiff arms. Instead, the elbow should be lifted upwards and led back in a straight line. This refinement could help viewers learn a more efficient and technically correct arm movement. Regarding the breaststroke, the wide 'frog kick' demonstrated may not be the most effective approach. This technique can lead to wasted energy and slower speeds. Instead, envisioning your legs forming a 'heart shape' could promote a more streamlined kick, enhancing speed and efficiency. Starting with breaststroke might be challenging for beginners due to its complex technique. I suggest focusing initially on the front crawl, as it’s generally easier to grasp and can lay a good foundation for later learning breaststroke. Specifically, the breaststroke arm technique should not be too wide; imagine you're scooping out a jar of honey with your hands forming small cups, not stiff, to effectively 'catch' the water. The advice to keep one's head above water might also not be ideal as it can negatively affect body position and make learning correct technique more difficult. A better approach might be to start with the front crawl, which simplifies mastering proper water position and subsequently makes it easier to learn the correct breaststroke technique. I would love to see a video focusing on the correct leg technique for breaststroke, as it's disheartening to see it demonstrated inaccurately. Your videos have great potential, and with a few adjustments, I believe they could become an invaluable resource for swimmers at all levels. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to seeing your content evolve

In North America, you don’t learn breast stroke until you’ve learned front and back crawl. Like, they teach you how to float on your front, back and side, then how to do flutter kick on your front, back and side, then how transition between kicking from front to side and back, (so you can breathe) and then they work the arms in. I find the breast stroke to be a slow, finicky stroke. I still have no idea how to swim the breast stroke while keeping my head out of the water. Can do it for front crawl though. It’s super strenuous, but I guess you can see where you’re going. I imagine it’s the same for breast stroke.

Still haven't found any suggestions for someone who has high muscle mass. Floating in a ball, with lungs totally full, I'm about 2 feet from the top. About ten seconds later, I'm sinking. 250lb powerlifter for context. I've been practicing a couple of different methods for a few weeks now but I can't get my head less than 6 inches from the top of the water during either breast stroke or freestyle. I am sure this is a skill problem, not a real physiological problem, but I don't see it addressed anywhere. I can swim relatively OK. I'm just a good foot to foot and a half below the surface. I thought these beginner tutorials would have something about this. I have to stand up to breathe every time. I will say that there are some nice details in this method that I found instructive. I will practice these details tonight
@eschelar7 ай бұрын
So I tried this tonight and it was a complete failure. Breast stroke method, the crown of my head doesn't even break the surface of the water. Floating on my back, my mouth is about 6 inches from the surface at the beginning. Feet supported floating on back, head goes about 2 feet below the surface. Kinda feeling defeated but I'll keep trying. I'm going to get a kick board next time and practice kick technique. Pretty sure that in open water, I'd be dead in less than a minute. Haha
@fatamy85977 ай бұрын
i’ve been doing bodybuilding for almost 3 years and currently bulking so this is my fear. im just nervous if i end up sinking. i remember the last time i swam (i was kind of fat) and i had a hard time kicking in the water and with the strokes. i’ve got a high amount of bodyfat on me currently and im just really nervous - thank you for your comment, nice to see someone talking about this
@eschelar7 ай бұрын
@@fatamy8597 good stuff on the bodybuilding. I'm also currently bulking. Actually running a bit higher on bodyfat too, so I thought it would be a good time to practice swimming. I'm prepping for an IPF event in November in the 120kg weight class. One level below nationals. Might be able to snag a national record for my age and weight class if I'm on point. I've been asking on the best videos I've seen and so far nothing. I asked a while back a few times too. No answers from anywhere. I guess the problem is rare enough that it doesn't exist to these people. I do hope that those who cared enough to put significant effort into their video will care enough to look into this and help ou with some answers. I find it hard to believe that nobody has ever successfully taught someone with a high muscle mass to swim (and breathe). I love what it does for my shoulders and I love the feeling of gliding in the water. I've considered buying a snorkel, like I've seen some guys use here, but I don't even know if that would work out because I would constantly be clearing the tube from water since I dip so low on every stroke. Just changing position from vertical to horizontal. I'm probably 3 feet or so under the surface, so a snorkel will need to be cleared from the first breath. There's got to be a way though.
