How to take a FIT (faecal immunochemical test) sample - English

This is an instruction video for patients in North Central London who have been asked to do a faecal immunochemical test (FIT) because they have visited their GP about bowel problems.
Viewers should note that the process for returning samples given in this video is not the same when doing a FIT as part of the national bowel cancer screening programme in England.

1) I collected sample on Friday evening forgetting that the GP is closed Sat and Sun. Is the time between collection and getting the sample to the path lab critical in any way? 2) Unusually I had gone out on a binge on the night before probably about 20 to 25 UK alcohol units consumed between 3pm Thursday and 1 am Friday. Is that likely to cause a false positive?

I also did my sample on a weekend and my GP surgery contacted me and said the lab were unable to process my results and they’ve asked me to do another test. I think the stool “expired” so to speak 💩💩😅😅

The label form on the bottle has a sticker with N A D what should the entries be?. The paper instructions instructions inconsistent.

To me colonoscopies are better because the doctors does it for you and it gives more clear information whether you have colon cancer or not. An abnormal result in a FIT test does not mean cancer. There could be many reasons why a FIT test could be abnormal.

I swear to god the amount of stupid information being posted. There are MANY reasons for blood in your stool. Colonoscopies are invasive and expensive.

I was spotting blood from my vagina when I did my fits and didn’t know. The test came back positive with a score of 176 could this have affected my results?

@@roulettered56 hey Yh I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy and my colon was totally clear zero sign of cancer or any polyps. So not sure what caused it 100% but I think it could have been the fact I was still spotting from my miscarriage which I didn’t know at the time of the test.
