How often do you think about the out of focus bits when taking a photo? If you are like most of the people, not very often. But once you start paying attention to the blurry bits, as well as the main subject, you are on your way to take some "bokehlicious" photos! Watch the video to find out how.

Finally a good video on bokeh. It's not just setting the aperture to 1.4 and think the bokeh looks amazing. DRTV knows what's up.
@Lofote10 жыл бұрын
Its actually more about distance to subject and background and about focal length than about aperture.
@seansdfilms10 жыл бұрын
Lofote True, while having a wider aperture like f/1.2 can make it relatively easy for a close up subject, for higher f-stops, like f/3.5 or higher, would require distance and focal length to get that bokeh shot.

I love the videos like this when kai just sits explains , like he knows really what hes talking about and he does, and he makes it look with his look his cap and the way he talks, modern and refreshing. he also brings back the fun to photography and after watching this i feel like i wanna go and shoot and that was sth i missed in the videos recently and in his older videos years ago i had always this felling becouse it was a combination of fun and knowledge not only one of it. In the last videos it came back more and i like the way you make the videos know much more, though i enjoy all your videos, but sometimes i have the feeling Kai likes it more to make the videos which are more funny , but i hope he loves to make this kind of videos like that one now, because they are really great. Also i have to mention that kai talks bit fst in this video and the style of the video is a bit fast, but i like tht becouse its like you learn / hear sth and he pushes you to the next thing, its like yeah thats it and you think its cool ( at least i do i dont know how its about you), i dont know how to explain it but i just hope you know what im talking about. Great, pls more o that.

***** Sure do! I ended up with the nikon 35mm 1.8 btw :)
@ignatei10 жыл бұрын
My visual style is to show a subject within its environment, instead of the so-called "creamy look" where everything gets mushed out. I compose the photo from the back to the front, and just capture what is in front of the camera. I'd only rarely use bokeh if I really have to isolate a subject from a distracting background.

DigitalRev TV please guide me on this. 60p recording is known for slo-mo videos but why doesn't it come with sound ? I ask this because I plan on buying Nikon D3300 for that 60p fHD recording. What if I want to shoot an event and later while editing I want to retain the smooth slow-motion for particular time frame and keep the other part in normal speed with audio ? Basically, does the DSLR record sound at all while shooting in 60p ?

2:11 Re: the viewfinder/screen not showing exactly what the bokeh will look like at f1.4 or f1.8 - why not? I just borrowed a Sony A57 and a 35mm f1.8 lens to learn a bit about photography - I thought it would be 'what you see is what you get', but I need to press a 'preview' button to check what the bokeh will look like. Why is this? Thanks.
@Lofote10 жыл бұрын
Because with a closed aperture the phase detection autofocus sensors will get not enough light and so autofocus is crippled. Mirrorless cameras like the Sony NEX, A6000 or A7 cameras do not have that problem, so they are actually always live, but DSLRs and SLTs do require to have an open aperture.
@bigwangmark10 жыл бұрын
The Sony A57 is a DSLT camera with a EVF over an optical one on a DSLR.
@Lofote10 жыл бұрын
Mark B Yes, but the reason why the set aperture is not shown "live" before pressing the shutter button, is the same as for DSLRs.
@ForViewingOnly10 жыл бұрын
Lofote Thanks for the responses. I see what you are saying about the phase detection autofocus. So in theory, if I manually set the aperture to F1.8 (fully open), there should be no difference between the image on the display with or with the preview button pressed? (I can't try this at the moment because I need to borrow the camera again)

If you do close-up portrait, your kit lens might just be enough, as the DOF will be so small you'll have to stop down to f/5.6 anyways, and this way you can get *BOKEH!* with your 5.6 kit lens

@True_Tech71910 жыл бұрын
@tbrowniscool if you're going for general use, I'd recommend the 35mm f1.8, it's cheap, equals almost a 50mm focal length, works for pretty much everything, gets some pretty decent bokeh. However if you really want some #bokehlicious shots, I'd say go for the 50mm f1.8 or f1.4, it becomes a portrait lens on the d3200 and gives great bokeh, the only thing I miss about selling my d3200 and going micro four thirds

So basically, if your aperture can go as low as say f/1.2, then it'll be very easy from a close to mid range subject. The Sigma 50mm f/1.2 is a great example. The fall out is quick and the background is an instant blur; easy for bokeh shooting. For apertures that go as low as say f/3.5 or f/4, you're gonna have to distance yourself from your subject.
@sergeybessarab238610 жыл бұрын
Mmm... I think you just have "invented" a new Sigma lens: Sigma don't have 50 F1.2 lens in their product range and as far as i know - never had one... Maybe you meant Sigma 50 1.4 or Canon 50 1.2?
