How To Talk To People - Bruce Lee Charisma Breakdown (Part 2)
Get the 4 emotions you need to make a great first impression every time: bit.ly/2ENXoza
Learning how to talk to people is a super important skill, but one we are never taught in school. In fact, sometimes we get so wrapped up trying to make small talk that we lose the opportunity to really connect with someone. Bruce Lee doesn't make that mistake in this interview.
This video will show you how to talk to people and how to lead a conversation towards topics that make you more likely to make a lasting connection. There are lots of ways, but this is one that will present itself as soon as the other person starts asking questions. You'll be able to build rapport quickly and potentially walk away with a new friend.

Doesn't matter if he was ahead of some time period because the next time period had no equal and millions of people had the time and knowledge BEFORE to create inspirational martial arts , so the "time period " had nothing to do with him . It was accumulation of information , wisdom and inner awareness that had then and now , that nobody has matched . No my son , time belongs to Bruce Lee .

Philippe Augustine..i read his book. I have multiple quotes memorized. Let's see, eh, the inability of one to attain self esteem is what shakes the world to its foundations. What he's saying here is don't be fooled by the need for serif esteem through achievements first and foremost. Stand tall in YOUR individual truth and you'll never have to count on others respecting you through your need for self esteem. This is knowing your innermost self. It is true maturity free of childish behaviors surrounding us daily. That is, rely on self knowledge, this means standing tall in the void between this and that..in your truth with live and kindness for all. Sorry, got carried away..laugh a little..or..lal.

I read that Pierre Burton did say that Bruce Lee was (probably/was) his most memorable interview. Lee grew up with the camera, being a child actor; and from there he probably learned/adapted what he learned from guys like Steve McQueen and James Coburn. Basically, he applied his Jeet Kune Do to charisma. Winston Churchill was magnetic because of his voice, etc. I think BL also had that quality. Plus, he was the real thing in regards to 'real fighting' --- if someone challenged him about fighting, he was glad to point out the guy's mistakes. If he and Muhammad Ali were being interviewed at the same time, even the Greatest would've had to pause now and then. Of course, Lee would be happy if he influenced others to be magnetic.

One great story is when BL was a student in Seattle university. This was told by his former girlfriend: "I was walking by the door, and there was Bruce in front of the empty classroom. In the chair in front of him, the philosophy professor (famous in his field) was in rapt attention as Bruce expounded on Chinese philosophy and the martial arts." (paraphrase)

I am a huge Bruce Lee fan, for so many reasons, he has been an inspiration to me in some of my tougher moments. As a result I have watched this interview a dozen times, it's really the only one out there of him being video taped. Bruce has always had a magic about him, his rawness in self-expression is magnetic. That is probably why I have watched this video so many times. However, after watching it with your commentary I did not realize all the little details about Bruce's magic. To my surprise I found it pragmatic when I incorporated some of these ideas into my conversations with friends and co-workers. Thank you so much for this!

This is not about frame control or anything like that, this is Bruce Lee expressing himself honestly and completely.. he is being himself, and it is just the way he is. This guy is poetic, elegant, and beautiful in every way, not only when he is talking.. Just look at his movies, look at the way he moves, his choreography, everything. Some people are just born with such natural charisma.. you can almost see the chakra and energy around him. He was a small dude, but his energy was enormous, made him look so big.

Some people just do it subconsciously. They are naturally strong and charismatic. The point is that most people would just answer a question without considering or pointing out if they really agree with the subtext of that question. And if they do that they leave out a good chance to show people who they are and what they think, but they also project a faulty image of themselves that they often don't even want to project. People like Bruce Lee on the other hand instinctively notice these subtexts at once and are confident enough to point out what they really think about a topic. Another aspect is that people like him know themselves well enough to respond quickly. People, who don't know themselves and their stands this well or never considered something often haven't really thought about it before and don't have the time to consider what they actually think or believe in the middle of a conversation. So they just go along. So yes, I think it's an interesting video.

What an amazing being Bruce was. I can see why he didn't last long, such an influential figure for the world. I see that questions driven to divide, "who is better?", "do you consider yourself Chineese or North American?"...are questions putting him in a position to pick a side, which is a tactic used by those who want to keep large groups in control. You either with me or against me, tricks one into thinking they must chose a side or else. That this is the way it's always been, picking sides and fighting one another. The way Bruce responds to the final question is the antithesis of how everyday social conversations are driven where one is always put in a position to take a side. He says "under the heaven there is but one family" is not the response the interviewer intended to get. The interviewer obviously does not know what Bruce's response to that question would be. He is driven to ask questions like this because it's what most media is designed to do. Divide. Look up "project mocking bird" so you can have a better understanding of how public discourse is driven to divide us all world wide. Bruce is right, we are a big family under the heavens, but those that wish to control the masses at all cost do not wish for all to think and live in this manner.

Agreed with everything you said and I saw this interview as well a couple years ago and was similarly impressed. One key, though, is that Bruce Lee, did, in fact, have a guiding philosophy that was not at all contrived and very authentic to who he was as a person. So, I think another element in charisma is to have, deep, abiding values and to return (an honour) those as touchstones always. He also mentioned in another clip, in this same interview, how honestly expressing oneself (which he believed to be at the heart of martial arts) is actually very, very difficult to do and you have to train yourself - much like you are doing and sharing in these videos. I enjoy them by the way and your authenticity also comes through.

This title is so apt. As your channel. And choosing Bruce Lee as an example...perfect. This was Bruce's true forte IMHO. Not his alleged hand speed. Or martial arts ability (he never finished studying a single MA nor did he ever compete). But he was a genius at self- promo...a lot which had to do with his massive jump off the screen charisma and his interview charisma. Most of his fans today just see whats's on the surface. Hypnotized by what he's selling in his films and in this Pierre Burton interview. HIMSELF. That's why we're still talking about him almost 50 years after his death. He's created an image that will never die. Usually people forget about that person who passed away a few years later and stop talking about them. Odd exceptions (e.g. Elvis...to some degree). As you mentioned he doesn't give answers that could lead to a ping pong type interview. Flat. The type of answers most people would give. He operated on another level. Now if he was actually a black belt in many MA styles. Was a world martial arts champion. Undefeated in the ring. He'd be that much "larger".

I think that just about answers the questions about Bruce Lee, and why family, friends, and fans miss his so much, even today in 2019!

" I think of myself as a human being...!" Which of course is absolutely true and also, by the time he utters those words he has put himself light years ahead of the gentleman who is the one asking the questions. Philosophically speaking. we are afraid of what we do not understand. This fear that we/some Harbor is still the root of all the war, hatred and killing that still exists to this day. That we cannot look up to the stars and realize that at its complete essence; We are all human beings... Thank You Sifu!

I LOVE IT! I use to do this as a kid, strictly cause I loved learning and exploring to find a "better" answer not the right one or me being correct, usually. It is funny cause I didn't understand people's perspective of me. Because to me it JUST WAS. It is interesting gaining a true understanding of oneself. And ALWAYS loved Bruce Lee too. "Make your mind as water. If water is put into a vase, it takes the shape of the vase. If it's out into a glass, it takes the shape of the glass. It takes shape to the situation as it needs."

Bruce Lee had such an awesome soul that will live on forever. As someone who owns a business and does sales, I need this. Grew up as a timid and soft-spoken and introverted person who was always around long-winded and highly opinionated people especially in my family. The woman I'm with today is the first person in my life to ever encourage me to make my voice heard. At Age 40, I've been observing...myself...in "conversations" (which usually end up being monologues which you do all the listening while the other person talks endlessly and values little to none of your input)...and want to change it. If I'm going to be successful in my endeavor, I need to learn how to be in control of the conversation and avoid being walked and talked all over or pushed out of the way and get better at dealing with pushy aggressive personality types when I encounter them. A challenge that needs to be overcome. Thank you for this.

Interesting video. I'm sure most of us thought this was going to be a video about Bruce's on-screen charisma. Rather than his speech/wording. I've always though Bruce was more about his ultra charismatic personality than how fast he could kick or haw hard he could punch. His ability to charm us all to this day in 2020. Decades after his death. Who can do this? Or who has? Not too many. (maybe Ali, Elvis....

Fantastic! There was only one Bruce Lee; his philosophy was as deep as his art and you did a great job of making accessible for the average Westerner who often struggles to see a deeper way/meaning/nuance of life.

Many people confuse "Kung Fu". 功夫 It means "Skill". If you go learn self defence, they teach you "techniques". Technique over time= skill, Taekwondo= 跆拳道= Tao of the fist. Jiujitsu=柔道=Tao of the soft (kicking and punching is the hard) Tai Chi = 太極=Supreme Ultimate (When you know both the hard and the soft, not many could master it, therefore people misunderstand it, MMA would be both hard and soft). Bushido= 武士道= Tao of the warrior Karate = 空手道= Tao of the empty hand (simplified to teach those who have to use it in war. Okinawan learned from China. ). Kendo=劍道= Tao of the Sword Wing Chun= 詠春=Chant of the Spring Jeet kune do= 截拳道= Tao of the intercepting fist Aikido= 合氣道= Tao of harmonizing Chi ( from Tai Chi ) Any honest Japanese, Korean will tell you all these came from China. It is due to recent wars and subversion that this is confused. They all write them in Chinese to this day.

Actually Kung Fu has two meanings : 1.skill, way 2.Any kinds or ensemble of all kinds of Chinese martial arts. I don't know which one appeared firstly. I'm not sure if it's appropriate to say that they came from China. They indeed originated from China but they were born in Korea or Japan, like an American Born Chinese or African, he was born in America but belongs to a Chinese family. One last thing, the literal translation of Wing Chun is Chant of Spring but in fact It's said that Wing Chun is the name of the founder of this kind of martial arts Yim Wing Chun.

+MrWilko I would say it's Tao of fist and foot for Taekwendi, 跆means Foot if I don't get it wrong because any Chinese characters with the part 足like跟 跳 蹦 踝 are related to Foot. That's the literal translation and has no deeper meaning. And Judo 柔道, way of soft means that you don't tame your opponent by tough movement like punching directly in your chest but by soft ways like stumbling someone or armlock him.

Bruce Lee was in total control of the entire interview. He led the interview instead of allowing himself to be distracted by the questions themselves and become the subject of the interview. See what he did there? That's a true alpha, a real leader. Denzel Washington is very similar in that way.

The interviewer was Canadian Pierre Berton hosting his own show. He was famous in Canada for his writing and for for his appearances on TV show Front page challenge which ran from 1957-95. My understanding is that this is the only full interview with Bruce Lee existing. It was done in 1971.
