How do you manage scrolling down then up in that small timeframe ? I’m forced to do it with spacebar (same with walljump + tapstrafe) cause scrolling up then down then up feels soooo weird

You only need to scroll one notch down to activate the jump so it’s just a quick flick down then a longer glide up. It was awkward at first but I hardly ever use my spacebar anymore. There’s no real “right” way to do it. (Aside from binding w to mouse wheel up or down because then it won’t work at all) it just comes down to personal preference. Nothing wrong with using spacebar for the initial jump.

Thank you this was really easy to understand. My only question is for the mouse wheel up keybind for forward movement...when I scroll up, my character only moves like an inch even if I scroll slowly. I try to scroll kind of slowly, because it puts in multiple inputs, but the slowly moving forward is how it is for me too

I scroll once, but I scroll the entire strafe because it'll input the W key throughout. If you're not sending enough W inputs then tap strafing won't work. Each W input changes the direction slightly in the direction that you're looking.

In order for tap strafing to work you need multiple W (forward) inputs in a row very quickly. It would be very difficult to do this manually so binding it to scroll wheel is the best way to do it.

I always try to respond to comments :) You have to bind move forward to scroll wheel (either up or down) in order to tap strafe, but not jump. A rough idea of how tap strafing works is that each time you move forward (W) you move in the direction you're looking at. So if you bind W to change in quick succession while changing where you're looking, you can change your direction mid-air. You'd have to mash W pretty much faster than humanly possible in order to tap strafe without it bound to scroll wheel

Make sure none of the settings are duplicated anywhere and the timing is correct is the best advice I can give. Also, make sure that you’re not using the scroll wheel too fast because it does have to have constant inputs

A simple way to explain why it works is that each time you have a W input you move forward in that direction, by using a scroll wheel to constantly have that input going and changing the direction you’re looking is why it works. If you only press W once you only move in that single direction. By having the input going constantly you change direction constantly

You can change it to scroll wheel up but the way tap strafing works is that each time you have a W input you’ll move in that direction, so having a stream of them while moving where you look is what makes the turn so fast. You can do slight turns without the scroll wheel but you can’t 90 degree or 180 degree tap strafe without it

Tap strafing only works if there’s a constant W input because each W input changes your direction to where you’re looking. If you only use W you’d have to mash it repeatedly while you moved the mouse. Scroll wheel is much easier.

Every time you press W it allows for the direction to be changed, which is why multiple W inputs are necessary. If you only press W once or twice, you’re only going to move a small bit. It’s good for turning corners sharply or redirection after a wall bounce. It’s very hard to utilize this in fights unless you specialize in movement. Tap strafing isn’t needed to be good at the game but I find it fun to do
