Thank you that was a great lesson , my foot tries to tap what I play and this really helped me , I can really feel the difference when I get it right. Appreciate you putting it out there.

This was an extremely handy lesson because of the use of the foot instead of a noisy metronome. Thank you very much. Practice with the foot then metronome for me.

I think I'm at a stage of breaking out to intermediate from beginner (I can change chords including barre chords pretty easily) but having trouble with keeping rhythm sometimes. @bqwood, glad you found the video useful :) Did I not do some triplets when playing the pentatonic scale, maybe not, but yes, triplets or any rhythm is good to practice when tapping your foot.

I spent a really long time going through things that were 8th notes only, so I would have down hand / down foot, and up hand / up foot, locked in exactly. This has led to a serious problem for me right now as I'm trying to do something involving triplets and 16th...my brain is in the total habit of moving my hand up with my foot, even though that's not what needs to happen here! I wish someone told me back then to go work on 16ths as soon as I had 8ths pretty well felt, now I feel like this is a strong habit that is going to be very difficult to break from.

@Venthorn, I can understand your frustration, but any habit is relatively easy to break and doesn't take a long time, but it does require discipline. Discipline in making sure to implement the new habits consistently, and discipline in taking things VERY slowly. On the surface, it doesn't appear like you've necessarily done too much wrong here, just the next step along the way to being able to independently tap your foot no matter what rhythm you are playing.

Michael, you can do this! :) Do exactly as I do on the video and take it SLOW! As slow as you need to get it right. This may be incredibly slow, but that is good, as long as what you are doing is accurate. Let me know how you get in with it. I know you can do this :)

12/8 time is a compound time signature meaning there are 4 strong beats each divided into 3. So you would tap your foot on the strong beats and count 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 (tap your foot on the 1, 4, 7, ad 10)

My uncle always taps his foot while singing the second song in church while we're all sitting down. I find this extremely embarrassing, so I always have to cover my face during the second song. But when I see him, I just think inside my head, "dude, would you please stop that? There are people here! You're embarrassing everybody!" I mean, if his foot falls asleep while singing, that's one thing, but if his foot doesn't fall asleep while singing, then I have to cover my face. I love my uncle dearly, but he needs to learn how to be less embarrassing.
