I am a qualified teacher. My problems with this presentation are two. First: there are disruptive pupils who will laugh at your face if you try this with them. They are bullies and your positive attitude is not going to help. What do you do then? Second: kids like their phones. Depriving them of their phones will not improve the positive relationship between you. Let’s face it - phones are entertaining, and people, for the most part, are boring. Virtually every kid is hooked on his/her phone and this shouldn’t necessarily be presented as something bad. Their virtual reality is their imminent reality, like it or not.

I'm not a teacher but would hazard to guess large class sizes that would make it hard to hone on each individual student and pressure to cover the curriculum in a limited time span especially for mainstream topics .

Why wouldn't the teachers ask her precious daughter about her life in Spain? Could it be because of large class sizes ,the pressure to cover standardized material in a the limited time frame ,(especially for mainstream subjects ) all while having to manage different aptitudes , behavioral issues ,and not to mention wokiesm of having to keep track of who wants to be referred to by what pronouns ?. We expect teachers to be magicians and stretch themselves thin for as little compensation and as possible .
