Hey Kelli ! I'm a brand new Early Interventionist and I've been struggling a LOT to learn the position and expectations. Your videos are SO HELPFUL in giving me new ideas to work with kids and teach parents. Thank you so much for what you're doing, you're incredible! Massively underrated channel, every parent in the world should be watching stuff like this. Thank you a thousand times, thank you so much!

I wanted to come back and say thank you! I used this method to teach my 2 years old child with ASD to respond to my question in Yes/No format. While she knew how to say yes and no, it was never is response to a question we asked. She is very self directed. For example, In the past, we would ask 'Do you want milk?' She would not respond but just stare at us until she eventually says 'want milk'. After using this method for about a week, she started correctly responding to our questions. It's been about 5 months now and my little one is a pro at this. We are now working on building reciprocal conversation. But I wanted to sincerely thank you for these videos.

Is this appropriate for a 15 month old? I tried it, and I made him mad 😂 he was just reaching for the cookies lol. Maybe he’s not ready? He’s currently pointing to communicate and sometimes waving
@jennymccann80282 жыл бұрын
I tried doing this today for my 22mo son. He got pointing at the sign right away, but won't nod or say "yes." When I say "yes" (Want candy? Yes! Want candy!) though, he giggles and giggles, so at least i know that's what he wants, whereas before he wouldn't make any reaction to a yes/no question. I tried to expand on the concept with his sippy cup,(want milk? Yes!) he just grabbed the cup and walked away, didn't even look at me, the little stinker....
@TheSpeechScoop2 жыл бұрын
Haha! Yes kids are sneaky! Definitely keep being dramatic and exaggerative and continue modeling yeah! With high affect and hand him one at a time like one at a time gummy‘s or a little bit of juice at a time. If he can get it on his own and that defeats the purpose lol! I think he knows that!! Lol Then the next time just the way instead of modeling and using the visual and verbal for him just see what happens and also if you have a dad or a sibling available that can model saying yeah super excitedly give it to them whatever it is that you’re working with!

Hello just a quick question so if I’m using the pictures when will I know when they don’t need them? like right now my daughter is using the pictures to get the cookie. at some point should I try it without the pictures and see if she nodes or says yes and no?

Hi Kelli! Thank you for these videos!! I had a question: How many times do we do the hand over hand for the yes card before the child starts doing it on their own? Thank You!!
@TheSpeechScoop2 жыл бұрын
I would model it only a couple of times but definitely make sure that the things are preferred or their favorite items so that motivation is high! You can also do hand under hand or prompting of the elbow because hand over hand does not respect body autonomy so we want to give them as much independence as possible!

Hey dear ...ur vedios are much helpful for me as well as those parents having their kid with speech delay ...can you please make a vedio on how to give potty training to my speech delay kid....
@TheSpeechScoop4 жыл бұрын
hey there! Honestly.. The best way that I've had experience with is first, taking a log of every time your child goes to the bathroom/potty the best you can, as in, check the diaper every 30 min or hour - set a reminder on your phone) and write "wet" or "dry" during each time slot that you check. THEN, after you have that data, keep the same feeding (eating and drinking) time as before so that hopefully the schedule will match as much as possible, and just take your child and place them on the potty for 1 - 2 minutes and give them an M&M or a treat for sitting there.... THEN - IF they DO potty while they are sitting there - POSITIVE praise and attention and A LOT of TREATS or M& Ms to raise the motivation for the child to potty again the next time they are sitting there. Repeat every day. Lots of work - but you can do it!! Hang in there! :)

Teaching positive reinforcement with a sugary cookie is not a healthy strategy
@TheSpeechScoop3 жыл бұрын
I would have to agree! Any treat that a child likes can be used! The clients that I’ve worked with have just always wanted a cookie or other sugary snack because they are limited, but each child is different! You could also do this without positive reinforcement & just by interacting using the child’s intrinsic motivation by playing side by side & modeling with a stuffed animal during an unstructured play routine!
