Hey! I found your channel a few weeks ago, your videos helped me with getting an idea on what's going to happen when I get a budgie, I told my dad and my mom about how a bird needs a big cage, but they didn't think it was true sense of how small a budgie is. So I kinda feel a bit bad for it. But I'll make sure to take it out of its cage more often. 💖

The best way to deal with dander is simply to get an air purifier! With cockatiels, that powder down is totally normal and can't be lowered all that much through bathing and all that.

My budgies have a hard time training but that's fine since the people that had surrendered them to the pet store didn't take them out much(they had other pets apparently- a cat), so it's inevitable to see them be apprehensive of getting out the cage. I'm slowly trying to get them to perch on my finger. As of now they do it when they want but not when I need them too lol. BUT! I'm making progress they started to understand, I've started with what they are willing to give me most of the time which is 1 hand/foot. So I say hello and they have started to give me 1 hand to shake! It's definitely a step in the right direction, hopefully they can learn to step up/ perch on my hand more easily this way.

What do I do if my bird isn’t interested in the treats what other treats do you recommend
@lizziehn59282 жыл бұрын
Sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, fruity pellets, cut-up nuts, cut-up fruit, birdie bread, or even plain popcorn can be used as treats! Just make sure your birdie doesn't get the treat very often in its diet - it'll make the treat have less value to them.

Hi Elle. I was wondering, do you think you could do a video on how to keep birds with dogs and/or cats? I have 2 budgies 2 dogs and a cat and it’s really hard trying to keep my budgies safe. It’s too the point I can’t let them out of there cage. I would really like some advice because I’m only 11. Anyway thank you for helping the part of the bird world that are kids.
@lizziehn59282 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, it's quite dangerous to keep them together - mammals like cats and dogs can have very dangerous saliva that can easily hurt our birdies. Maybe you could take them out in a bedroom or office with the door closed? Then you'll be sure that no cats or dogs can get to them :)

@lizziehn59282 жыл бұрын
That's a start! I'd suggest trying to get them to eat some fresh foods like veggies or sprouts, gives them a little more variety that vitamins and seeds can't fill. Budgies can be real difficult to convert, so here are a few tips: - Cut up small pieces of the selected food into their current meals, so they can't be picked around. - Birdie bread! Because recipes are very customizable, they can be used to convert onto nearly any fruit, veggie, or pellet! - Birds are social eaters, so they may become more willing if they see you eating it in front of them. - Provide lots of options, they're bound to have a favorite or two. Sprouts, corn, peas, coriander, and sweet potato in particular have had pretty good luck. - Creative placement. Some birds will be more willing to try veggies if they're clipped on their cage or even placed in a pot like a house plant! - If they like one particular food, try foods with a similar texture or color! For taming, patience and respect are key. Maybe you could try some clicker training? Best of luck :)

Best get one from a breeder instead of a typical petstore - petstores tend to neglect their animals, carry potentially dangerous products, and will sell pets to just about anyone who walks in. That's not to say there aren't bad breeders, but you'll be much more connected with how your bird's raised & treated throughout the entire process.

@lizziehn59282 жыл бұрын
It isn't necessary, but having a bird room allows for some space between you and your birdie - I find that having them in your room can be a little disruptive both ways. They tend to be light sleepers afterall! Totally up to you though, plenty of owners have done room setups quite well :)

It tends to be best to avoid breeding when you still want to treat your birdies as pets, since they can get territorial/aggressive when protecting their nest. Getting enough sleep at night (12+ hours), a varied diet (lots of fresh foods!), and not providing nest spaces can all help to prevent breeding!

I hope you see this, Hello Elle, my name is Alex, and my pet Parakeet I've had for 11 years started having breathing problems and then congestion, I took him to the vet a few days ago, and they said they couldn't do anything. I've tried giving him the medication they prescribed, cbd oil that I've been giving him for months (which made his crusty brown cere back into a blue healthy one), and then I made homemade pedialyte for him. Have you ever had to put to sleep your friend? I'm crying and my heart is breaking that I have to do it. I'm so scared, I'm a grown man but it doesn't make it any easier, I'm a boy on the inside and I'm scared. Edit: My baby boy's name was Cloud, and he was a brave and strong, budgie, and he was my best buddy. He lived a long life, and just an hour or so ago I had to say good bye to him. He lived long enough these past few days for me to cry and grieve for him. It still hurts as I write this, but I believe he's in heaven and waiting for me till I see him again. For now I want to focus on growing my bond with his adopted son, Sky, that I got less than 2 years ago.

Patience, positive reinforcement, and personal space will be your three keys to success! Patience - Not everything will go according to plan at first, but that's okay! Birds (especially small prey species) will take time to trust humans. Don't give up! Positive reinforcement - Be sure to reward your bird with praise or treats if they make progress! This can include when they're calm, if they come up to you, or if they land on you in a desired location. Millet can work pretty well as a treat, just make sure they don't have much of it in their normal diet. Personal space - While you don't want to give up, you WILL want to respect your bird's wishes through it's body language. If it doesn't want to be touched, don't touch it. If it doesn't want to interact, pause on the interaction for a bit. This will help prevent you from getting bitten and your bird from stressing out much further. For specific activities, you can try out... * Different forms of training (target and/or clicker) * Talking or singing to your bird * Making food or toys around your bird * Offering occasional treats * Generally hanging out and carrying on normal life. * Get on their level (literally!) by kneeling or sitting on the floor! * Move slowly, freeze, or back off when you see your bird getting a bit overwhelmed. Best of luck taming your birdie friend!
