Thanks for showing how to properly pickup and hold a Common Snapping Turtle. I saved one that was trying to cross a road at 1pm. After turning on my hazard lights and getting out of my Jeep, a truck pulled up, and a guy that got out said “hold it by the tail”, I said “No, that will hurt him”. This turtle appeared to be 7-10 years old and had a long thick tail. It was a nice size one! I let the turtle go in our lake. It was heading for the same lake, but taking a long way to get to it. Saved a baby in Spring, saw a juvenile by our dock eating a dead carp, and now saved a good size one today. These turtles are amazing!

Really good comparison and conservation message. Came here after visiting few more channels and reading few articles. Wanted to identify a turtle my wife saw and photographed in Blue Spring State Park, Florida. At once we thought it's an alligator snapper, but wanted to be sure before having its photo in a video we will be making for our channel. The turtle in our question had what appeared to be a mix of features from both the alligator snapper and the common snapper. None of the channels we visited showed the differences using the Florida variant. Now, we are pretty sure what we have in photograph is a Florida Snapping Turtle. Thank you, Greg. Appreciate your presentation. All the best!

Greg, have you ever found a Florida snapper in the wild? I have an AST and CST but want a Florida, have you had any eggs from yours yet and if so do you sell florida hatchlings?

Yes, easily. Many do it. I have two babies together in a 60B and they spend 90% of the time touching they are so close.

You sure it's an alligator snapper and not common because the common snapper as a baby has the spines on its shell as well

What about when the Florida snapping turtles are hatchlings? I have 3 coming in but idk if I need to make separate tanks or what
@GregsTurtleHaven4 жыл бұрын
Cassie Catchot I find the young snappers more aggressive with each other than the adults, I recommend separate enclosures unless you want tails mangled and bitten off

Love your channel. I am sure Rufus, my baby snapping turtle will benefit from your videos. I'm thinking way down the road, but how do you keep a 20 pound snapping turtle during the winter in middle Illinois. It's kind of a depressing thought for me, but I know Rufus will grow, and the garage gets really cold. A cow trough would take an entire parking spot in the garage. Regardless, I will be back again and again for help. Adios.
@diychad7268 Жыл бұрын
They can live in pretty darn cold waters for a good amount of time, like just above freezing (as all water that is still in liquid form is) water they can live in for a month or more so being in your garage it won't be too hard to keep the water at least just above freezing, but being in a garage I would think even 50 degrees shouldn't be an issue and that's with no sort of heater in the water

I like you videos but moving forward you can’t keep using the same music as Chandlers wildlife. use something different that people will recognise to being linked to your videos. That said keep the content up 👍
@GregsTurtleHaven4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching and thanks for the input; the music is just the free music that comes with iMovie and I use the music that fits the vibe of the videos, that one is just been a favorite of mine. I’ve been downloading some new stuff outside of the iMovie library, but free rights music is pretty hit or miss. Again thanks for your advice 👍🏼👊🏼

Alligators have the worm in the mouth and are more dark... i think
@GregsTurtleHaven4 жыл бұрын
porrimuu yes, alligator snappers have the worm tongue, and both are dark as hatchlings, but both also can become quite light with age. I’ve seen brilliant yellow and cream colored adult alligator snappers, and I’ve seen both common snappers and AST completely stained almost black from muck, so color isn’t much of a factor.
