Good video man. I gotta go back into the rockers. I replaced the rockers and i still have a tick. No codes. And ticking is only bad when its at operating temp. When the engine is cold the ticking is weak. So now ill recheck the lifters and the cam phaser. Good video dude

Oh man... this is exactly what my truck is doing... definitely not something I can fix. Truck gave me exactly the same codes that JT mentioned. That and some electrical stuff is why I finally took it to the dealer ($,$$$) Perfect timing JT, this helps me to know what is going on in my repairs.

I was honest with the service advisor, told them I have an aftermarket viper remote start (it stopped working same time instrument panel problems began). Pulled fuse to remote start, picked up truck Monday (12/7) problem solved. Price: $0.00. Replaced remote start (went bad for some reason).

Open the cam phaser and clean out the channels around the pin that locks the cam phaser movement. Cam phasers typically don't fail unless due to poor maintenance such as infrequent oil changes, running with low oil, or using incorrect oil.

A bad cam phaser can also cause a tick similar to a bad lifter or rocker arm. Just an fyi... obviously you need to check like you have done. But i would recommend replacing all the lifters and rocker arms if replacing one because the others may not be far behind the one that failed

Got a question. I replaced the lifters and rockers bc I was getting cam position code. Noisy rockers/lifters. Put everything back together and no compression on 2&5. Removed heads and had them worked. They supposedly checked fine. Reinstall everything and still no compression on 2&5. Push air into cylinder and some comes past rings on all cylinders. Install timing set and rotate and no compression. Any advice? You the go to man on these motors! 2013 Jeep Jk. 80k miles

Question: changed phasers bank 2 intake camshaft, swapped sensors and solenoids still sets poo18 DTC Please any suggestions would be appreciated!!! And yes did cam crank relearn. Checked timing 5 times. Oil gallery bolts are ok. Cam journals are perfect. No wear. The oil filer housing was missing oil pressure relief valve. Just replaced it with Dorman.

There's recommended vs what should be replaced, on the lifters, would you only replace the ones with play or recommend to owner to replace all lifters? For the rockers, you can see which ones are damaged, but would you recommend to the owner to replace all the rockers, regardless.

Hey im doing a timing chain on a 2010 acadia and replaced all phasers but the one giving me a problem is the intake left phaser Ive already bought at least 8 different brands and all seem to have a wiggle play probaby half a tooths worth and even got the dealer oem kind and also have play, all other 3 are good except the intake left, my camshaft rods are all good, new lifters also My buddy down thenroad was doing a similar job so i borrowed his new phaser and his has no play, what can be the problem? All phasers are new from autozone chevy dealer, rocknauto etc. All have that play And this is with the chain off

JT, thanks for the excellent information in these videos. Do the oil control valves need oriented, or can they go in and just torqued down? Secondly, when changing my lifters, I noticed a small oil hole on the side of the lifter and an elongated slot in the hole the lifter sits in. Is the lifter oil hole supposed to be lined up with the elongated hole?

Yes the OCV acts as the cam phaser bolt as well. Its just to be screwed in and torqued to specs. Make sure tge tge center of the bolt will push in and come out which means its not restricted. Also make sure those oil gallery plus under the phasers torqued to specs. As for the lifters, they just set in there slots as it, the oil holes are normal and will work in any position

I just today got a p000b code I'm trying to figure it out, bank 1 camshaft 2 position slow response I tried replacing an actuator on the exhaust but the code came back, would the phaser perhaps be the issue?

Hey man! Thank you for taking the time to share all this with us. It's helping me figure out this 2014 Caravan I bought. I have P0300 and P0304. I can see only cylinder 4 miss on the counter. I have 180 psi compression, good leak down, rocker arms are tight, no cam issue, swapped fuel injector, coil pack and plug to adjacent cylinder to no change, ohm tested wires and have voltage when when it's running, but still can't figure out why it's got the p0304 and rough idle.. I was gonna take off the lower intake next to check gaskets, but I have that timing chain noise coming from from over there near the cam phasers.. my timing chain is tight and when I put it TDC, the arrows line up perfectly! It's there a possibility that cam phasers could affect only the one cylinder #4? Sorry for the long post bud, you're my only hope! Thanks again

@@magicapple6353 I fixed it. Just swapped the rocker arms and the code changed to the other cylinder. Bought a new rocker arm for the number 4 and all my problems went away, got my inspection and that was that, thankfully!

Jt I just did this repair on a 11 charger put everything back together but on started up after it idled for 2 seconds it made a rattle sound but was good after that I did get a p0016 and P0017 code it does it if time i shut it off and on could it be the timing plz and thank you

I think this is the problem I am having with my 2015 200s 3.6. The motor just started ticking 2 weeks ago and my extended warranty won't cover the repairs be a there was some small amounts of sludge found in the motor. I've seen that these motors have issues like this. Now I'm stuck paying for the repairs. Also the transmission on the 200s awd is terrible. I have had it in the shop 7 times for the same problem that never gets fixed. It shifts hard and there's a slapping sound when coming to a stop after going at least 25 mph.

JT ever come across a tick with all new roller rockers and lifters on a jeep and good cams i find it hard to believe a fuel injector could have a loud roller rocker tick its not bottom end its top im baffled only 106 k miles on it :{

I opened one of these penstar engine cam phasers and the design is so simple there is no reason just cleaning one of these phasers to make them like new. There is one plastic part and a small spring then just two pieces join together with a cap. There is nothing magnetic about these phasers but getting close to one can magnetize the phaser causing it to stay in one position and there is only one movement in the thing.

Question...do I need to bleed the pressure out of the lifters before installing, so that upon startup they can be pumped up to proper height by oil pressure? Or can I just drop them in straight out of the bag? The new lifters seem to be primed and are rock solid, meaning they cannot be compressed. There seems to be varying opinions on this. Also, should I soak the new lifters in oil before installing?

JT, thanks for these videos. I have a 2016 Grand Caravan and I recently replaced Bank 1 Exhaust Camshaft and while in there I replaced all of the Rockers and Lifters on both Bank 1 and Bank 2. When I was reassembling bank 1 My mark on the timing chain did not line up with the mark on the phaser, so I made sure that the two marks did in fact line up. However, I did not check to see if the timing marks on the phaser were pointing to each other. After reassembling, I start the engine and within a minute I start getting rough Idle, a minute or two later I get P0301. Now I am second guessing myself. I know without a doubt that Bank 2 was right. Based on that, if I line up the marks on bank 2 and the marks on bank 1 are not lined up, can I line them up without pulling the timing cover and checking the whole timing system? P.S. I drive for Uber and this is my Uber vehicle. It has been down for over a month now and I really need this thing running.

Yes you can..because there is no marks on crank, you have to rely on the known good in time head, which in you case is bank 2. Put it in time then just redo bank 1 to be in time..no need to remove cover

Hello Jason, thanks for jumping on board. Keep in mind there is technically no change interval for the cam phaser. Its just that Ive personally seen them fail between 80-100K. And in some cases peaople have to go back into there engine for this repair that can sometime look like the same rocker arm repair that was just done. Some based off thatIde say go for it bud. Also make sure those oil gallery plugs tight.

Yes that is the way I did it when I had to put one back together for somebody. There is no tdc mark on the crankshaft so the other bank is your best hope.

@@mtbbuddys2545 Well yes a bank 2 exhaust cam phaser will cause this code, but so will low oil pressure. He likely needs to remove the valve cover and insp those oil galley plugs and wrench test the phasers.

Its just that I talk/discuss problems with subscribers first...now please note, just because you have a rocker arm thats come apart does not mean the hydraulic lifter bad..I have a general rule that if I replace a rocker I will also do the lifter that was riding with that rocker

I changed the cam shaft sensor yesterday and reset the codes. So far it has not come up again. I also started hearing the tapping sound but I just changed all rockers and lifters about 2 weeks ago, so I figured it maybe cam phaser?

Lifters are cheap why not renew while your in there refresh everything not that much more money. No need to keep doing job over and over each time one goes out. If one goes out replace them all the others will go out soon enough. You definitely no your pentastar though. Never see anything about were those needle bearing end up? Are they falling out in the valve train or disinterested into metallic flake in oil?

The soft metal used on the rocker arm where bearings ride is the issue. Erodes that metal away giving the 'play' in the arm. Judge will rule soon on class action status or not. Seems you can not even get these parts from Chrysler at the moment either. Well, Advanced Auto, Napa and AutoZone couldn't for me. They must be preparing for a less than desirable judgement to fix their short comings.
