// ABOUT
Hi- I’m Mallory and my pronouns are (she/hers). I'm a Teen Therapist with a counseling practice based in Woodbridge, CT. This channel is dedicated to helping YOU improve your mental health!
The rates of teens struggling with suicide and self harm are rising and I want to reverse that trend! That’s why on this channel you’ll find I share a lot about coping with anxiety, depression, alternatives to self harm and how to talk to parents and other grown-ups about these challenges.
My biggest hope is to increase mental health awareness and break the stigma of talking to a therapist so teens can get the help they deserve and need right here, right now.

This really helps, I’m just really scared to talk about anything from anxiety to Ed and depression. Im scared to tell my therapist because I am really young and my parents think I’m to young to “ think that way “ so I don’t know but this really helps!

If it weren’t for draconian involuntary commitment laws I think a lot more people would talk about it. Ask anyone who’s had that done to them. 90% will tell you it made things worse.
@mallorygrimste
@mallorygrimste Жыл бұрын
Involuntary commitment definitely isn’t the preferred intervention for many, many reasons. I can’t speak for all places but in Connecticut the parameter is pretty high and strict for qualifying for a PEC (Physician’s Emergency Certificate) *that’s the document needed to pursue involuntary commitment. When I worked for a psychiatric Emergency Department we’d have to kindly remind many people of that when they wanted their loved ones committed to psychiatric inpatient hospitalization against their consent.

I haven't talked to my therapist since the beginning of quarantine, now the thought of telling her I need her again makes me anxious. What can I do?
@mallorygrimste
@mallorygrimste 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this question Alex! You may have just inspired a future video idea 💡 In the meantime, know that therapists are used to people moving in and on from therapy as needed. If you saw your doctor for a sinus infection and got better, you’d go back to them if you got another sinus infection. Same is true for mental health. We know that life happens 💛

Honestly when i first met my therapist i felt like because she had no expectations of me i could easily tell her the bad things that where happening, but now that she knows me i feel like im going to disappoint her, ive relapsed into self harm and i have bo clue how to tell her because i dont want to make her feel bad, how do i let her know
@mallorygrimste
@mallorygrimste 2 жыл бұрын
That can happen. Can you start with telling them how you want them to continue to have a positive impression? As therapists we're pretty saavy to that dynamic and totally get it. It can be a bit of a blessing and a curse- but we're weird and love talking with our clients about this stuff- plus we know these things can sometimes pop up along the healing journey.

I know I need to talk to my theripist about my suicidal thughts and self harm, but I never have the confidence to! The night before I might plan out exactly what im going to say, but when im actualy meeting with her, we end up talking about stress and stuff. Is there any way to make it easier? Thanks!
@mallorygrimste
@mallorygrimste 3 жыл бұрын
Yup- it’s easy to put it off. Sometimes messaging them before your next appointment to say “I have something important I’d like to talk to you about” can help. Also- writing it down and giving it to them read at the start of your session can make it easier to break the ice to start talking about it. You got this! If you’d like more help, definitely get the cheats get I made about how to talk about your feelings- it’s free and you can get yours here: www.mallorygrimste.com/howtotalkaboutfeelings

Temporarily I live far away from where she is living. I mailed my counselor that i am suicidal she asked me to meet her in person, i also said about self harm but she just said " thanks for gathering immense courage, " Later i again i mentioned that I had serious suicidal thoughts, she haven't cared and replied for music i shared with her. I don't know what to do,

This is something I highly recommend you talk with your therapist about directly. In the meantime don’t forget that there are plenty of crisis lines throughout the world. In the US you can call or text 988 :) Also you may want to create a coping ahead plan like the one in this video I made a while back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaCQlGmjpcySf8U

I've been thinking about suicide for 1 year 3 months. Things are getting worse, facing constant disappointments while reaching for help. My counselor doesn't seem to like to help me. I see no good in future, with all these trauma and sorrow i don't think i could heal or be normal like everyone. It seems to end it, than being a burden to my family. I can be productive so I can't get a job. Only thing in my mind is i have to give my IMPORTANT things to someone. Music and photos I took

Hi there I just was wondering how would you tell your therapist you're feeling suicidal again after they thought you were doing well?
@mallorygrimste

Exactly the same way I guide you through in this video. One of the reasons we ask, and ask, and ask again isn’t to be annoying- we try to give the opening that it’s OK to talk about again :)

When dealing with the VA step one is to wait 9 months for a consult. Bottom line, nobody cares. The VA would be happy if we would just disappear. Good luck to anyone in the struggle. I'm just gonna give up and see what happens
@mallorygrimste
@mallorygrimste 6 ай бұрын
Ugh the VA can definitely be cumbersome when you’re “on the list” - firstly thank you for your service :) my Dad is a veteran and has experienced this firsthand. Hang in there because once you’re in, they take really great care of you. Though working with a therapist in the private sector is always an option as well.

Be very careful what you tell a therapist. They have the power and sometimes the obligation to force you into a clinic for observation. You are responsible for the paying for the forced therapy.

Depends on the therapist's credentials and state laws. The goal is to help clients achieve their treatment goals and maintain their safety during the process.

Not all of us 😉 many are trained to assess and support treatment for suicidal thinking. Though of course the hospital is there if someone needs that level of support. It’s usually a conversation unless there is immediate safety concerns. If you’re not sure how your therapist supports suicidal thinking with their clients, you can always ask them about their approach. Hope that helps!
