Great question! I use what’s called a “feather razor” and it has guards on it so you can’t cut yourself, but the hair slips through the guards and gets cut!

I'm 78, and this happened to me at age 16. My dad asked me what I wanted to do ....go to business college or hair dressing school. I chose hair dressing and then he said "I changed my mind l will send you to business college and pay for it, you will have your hair a different color every week and I don't want that". Now I watch tutorials. Cut my husband's hair and get mine styled by my granddaughter Rachel who is my hairdresser. 😊

I'm 75 and became a hair stylist in the late 1960s. The cut you just did was in those days just a basic short hair cut. The cut was done with just a razor. We learned to texturize with the razor as the cut was done, not after with scissors. Your new method makes the cut take longer to get the same results. We also use the razor differently. The cutting was done from the head to the outside of the hand, not in the hand. That's why we could texturize as the hair was being cut.

Yep there are many ways to do things! I also learned to texturize with a razor but I 100% prefer to texturize this way. I feel it’s way more precise but that’s just me! Everyone has their own style and way of doing things, this is just mine 🙂

Interesting! I’ve never seen that razor technique where you cut under neither your fingers instead of on top. At first I thought you’d cut your fingers. Also, it must be a pretty sharp blade. Good job!

Yes! This way is the best way to avoid the hair from becoming frizzy. I sometimes change the blade in the middle of a haircut! A sharp blade is crucial to a clean cut! And it is a feather blade, so there is a guard on it and you can’t cut yourself 😊

I have! When not blow dried it takes a slightly different shape and it is dependent on the wave pattern of the hair, but one of my clients has a ton of curls especially in the back and she loves this cut!

She uses Pravana Purify and Revive because we have such hard water here. That shampoo is great because it removes impurity’s that would dull out her natural color. She doesn’t need any purple or blue shampoo!

They are regular straight shears! I like to use a shorter blade (5in) for texturizing and I only use this pair for texturizing on dry hair, not regular cutting.
