Good quote but he's factually wrong. He does represent the seldom example of climbing the class ladder, and the sacrifices and detriments contingent to it. But he is also a traitor to the working class, putting a lot of effort into undermining the movement for personal gain.

So true. Not saying I am Jeff Bezos but I do OK but in my 20s I made so many mistakes and failed in so many meetings now I can predict what could go wrong and take precautionary or mitigating actions to avoid failure and for the most part advance, or at least secure, my position. I definitely agree with EM! Even though Thomas does suffer from PTSD, he deals with his demons on his own. He doesn't let his experiences define what he can achieve, and doesn't let it affect his business. Especially comparing to other characters in the show, Tommy is definitely more mentally strong then most 💯
@edborrelli2786
@edborrelli2786 3 жыл бұрын
I would agree with Tommy dealing with his trauma differently and damn well for what he has gone through in only a decade of his life. Now the part I slightly disagree with is him handling his PTSD and Trauma very well in the way that he doesn't let it affect him. As we all know PTSD and Trauma symptoms manifest themselves in each individual differently. It was told in the show before the war he was always smiling and outgoing. Throughout the years after he does display symptoms of antisocial disorder esp after *SPOILER* Grace passes away and then his brother John and it eventually gets to the point where he doesn't see anyone from his family except his son, also Michael and maybe Ava for a year from Christmas to the next. He was punishing himself when he could have made amends sooner I'm sure of it. He pays for sex when he def doesn't have to and marries Lizzie his secretary when he doesn't actually love her. He just ends up diving into his business when he's feeling mental pain. Whilst successful, the more successful he becomes the more antisocial he clearly becomes. He places his family and friends in what could be dangerous situations and places at times without taking how they would feel into consideration just because he would rather be forgiven than permission which I'm sure is something he doesn't have time to deal with because of all his stress. Let's not forget about smoking Opium because of his bad dreams or hallucinations or whatever it manifested as when the 'enemy' were digging holes in his home walls at night before sunrise and he would pray every night the sun would rise before they break through so it would end before they got to him which apparently scared him crazily. What I am basically saying is Tommy was never meant to be truly happy for more than a small period of time according to the writers of the show. It shaped and molded him into a completely different person than he was before the great war aka WW1. He would have definitely benefitted from therapy and also a psychologist if he were to go (also if it was as good as it is today but atleast back then just talking would have helped) but like most people with trauma they avoid having to speak about what hurts them on the inside and bring it up all over again. To start the healing process. He may have made different choices throughout that tough decade if he were thinking properly and not always in traumatic pain digging his holes deeper, maybe things would have been different and more of his family would still be around including Grace but that's just speculation. All I can really say is the point of his character is to be a contradiction mainly. The more stable and composed he looks on the outside, the more chaotic his mind is internally just for him to see and deal with. It's quite sad.

The 3 of the shelby brothers have ptsd because of the war especially tommy and arthur and it was mentioned in the series that the war changed them and tommy said that he is just a very good example of what a working man can achieve

I agree Ken without a doubt! I feel as Tommy just handle's it a lot different, he immerses himself so much into his work that he use's it as an escape from his PTSD 💭

Please do a "how to think like Polly" from peaky blinders ... Please! She was my fave character, and I've noticed that most of your videos feature how to think like certain men.... Where are the women? Do Polly and Aida... Hell Aida went against the grain of her whole family.. she's worth a "think like" as well. Thanks in advance.

I love how she was the basically a mother to all the Shelby Brothers because she was the closest thing they had to a mom. She was a really well written and well acted character. Like so many characters in Peaky she had a lot of charm, charisma, and a great sense of humor. My American ears love listening to all the Irish and British accents in the show too.

I’m a fairly new subscriber and I love all the character breakdowns you’ve done but I would absolutely love to see a character breakdown on Carlito’s Way, my favorite movie (including the prequel ‘Rise to Power’) as I think it would be incredible.
