How to tie the Double San Diego Jam!

This is what I found to be called the "Double Pitzen Knot" or "The Shawn Grigsby Knot". I love this knot super strong super easy to tie. It causes no harsh bends or pinch points to cause weakness. Tomato or "MATER" how ever you call it, this is a solid tie for all your baits even drop shot. Only tip I would add is clip your tag ends flush, to help your lures slip through grass and moss a little cleaner, save your self from having to manicure your lure every other cast.

Alex, you tied the double Pitzen, also called the 16/20 or Eugene bend. The double San Diego jam goes thru the bottom loop before going back thru the top loop. Check out John Crews video. Just thought you would like to know. Regards

I think you missed a step. Before you go through the top loop you’re supposed to go through the bottom loop first. At least that is how you tie a standard San Diego jam knot.

So close. But as others have pointed out, you need to go through the bottom loop near the lure, and not just the top loop. But I do like the way you use BOTH hands and the thumb and index finger to have great control of the doubled line as you wrap it around and around. So here's an easy way to properly tie the doubled San Diego Jam correctly: Just put the pinky and index finger of your right hand in the lower loop nearest the lure to keep the lower loop open, and use the thumb and index finger of your left hand to keep the upper loop open. Use the third and fourth fingers of the left hand, and thumb and index fingers of the right hand to wind the end of the line around the doubled line in between both hands. Finish by grasping the end of the line between fourth and fifth fingers of you right hand to bring the end of the line through the lower loop. The knot is now stable so you can go ahead and start tightening it up, leaving a small upper loop open to pass the end of the line through as the final step before really tightening it down. Sound complicated? It's actually easy to do! And not much different than what you are doing in this video (except this allows you to go through the lower loop, and finally "improving" the knot by going through the upper loop). Cheers!

Why did you not go through the loop next to the hook before going through the loop you created with your pinky? All the single San Diego I’ve seen tied on here goes through both loops! Please let me know. Thanks

Dude....this might be my favorite video on the channel so far. A tip that a lot of people can use that's not as 'basic' as Texas rig/Carolina rig rigging techniques. Not a San Diego jam. If you went through the top loop and bottom loop, then you could consider that a San Diego Jam. Still a good knot. It will work.

These knots are getting ridiculous. We're bass fishing for 5 lb. to 10 lb. bass not 500 lb. tuna. Most bass anglers have fallen victim to the bull rope sized braid nonsense as it is. There is no bass swimming on this planet that can break 50 lb braid regardless of what knot you are using if it is tied correctly.
