Wow.... I just started really using braided line and this is by far the best and easiest to tie leader line knot Ive found. Thank you

Excellent just what I need to join my backer mono to my braid. Many of the mono to braid instructions are just for a small length of mono leader. Thanks for the stats that prove this is the best!
@bojo34932 жыл бұрын
As noted above, this is NOT the GT knot used in the IGFA test results. Check the diagram illustration supplied by the IGFA. Their GT was tied with a bimini in the braid prior to tying, then the mono leader is weaved through the two legs of the bimini in alternating fashion.

@RyanMonroe0910 I'm primarily fishing for bass, and an occasional walleye. Whatever version of the GT KNOT you're tying, a knot that can be tied in 30 seconds that gives me 90 percent efficasy is good enough for me. , I've had very good results utilizing this version of the so called GT KNOT. FINALLY! I had been using the double uni-knot for fluoro to braid but was not happy with the performance. The braid appeared to cut into the fluoro and cause the knot to fail. So I went looking for another knot. I've watched at least a dozen videos (and tried all the "best and easiest fluoro to braid knots" in them) over the past several days. NONE of the knots have worked with my river smallie rig: 30 lb braid to 10 lb fluoro. I tried the Alberto, Improved Albright, Yucatan, Double-Uni, and FG knots, among others. None worked as advertised, OR were as easy to tie as the videos made them look. Apparently, there's some special trick one must perform during the tightening process that all the other narration-less videos are incapable of explaining. When asked for help by multiple viewers, one guy could only advise them to "watch the video over and over and practice until you get it." WTF? Thank you for a clear and thorough explanation of this knot! I especially like that the tiny trimmed end of the mono is on the BACK side of the knot when casting. That should improve castability. Looking forward to seeing how it performs next time out! If you don't hear back from me, it did the job.
@earlharvey7659Ай бұрын
Regardless of what holier than thou people say about this knot not being a true FG knot doesn't frickin' matter; this knot works. I've been using it for several years now, and I've never had it fail. The line will break before this Jam knot does.

Depending on the test of the mono, yes it can be a little clunky through the guides. Personally, casting distance is rarely the most important aspect of my fishing so, it doesn't bother me. With all this said, I still use the Albright with my heaviest leaders (60-80#) because it's smoother, but I have been very happy with this knot for lighter leaders and have not had any failures.

While bench testing this knot until breakage with 65# j braid to 40lb big game trilene, the braid always breaks first right at the point it is weaved thru the mono. Makes me nervous. I would think the 40lb would snap first, but it seems to cut thru the braid at the knot.

That is not the real GT you demonstrated. The real GT knot is tied totally different using a bimini twist. That knot you tied is a jam knot (just half hitches very week). The fg knot is very easy to tie as well as the mid knot. Both are finger trap style knots which are the strongest. Hollow core line is even better but is still the finger trap concept.

Something looked wrong to me, i just didnt look it up. Saltwater inshore im using big leader so knot strength is not a concern i use surgeon's knot. Main line is 10-20 while the leader is 25+ for barnacles and pilings
@robertcox9226 Жыл бұрын
Actually, an easy way to improve the fg lighter braid is double the braid before tying. I use 10# braid often.
@earlharvey76593 ай бұрын
You keep saying GT, but do you mean the FG? Which is it? I've used this version of the "GT" knot for quite some time, without a failure in the knot. I've used double Uni knots, the FG knot, and many other braid to mono or flouro knots. I'm not a champion knot tying guru, but I do know what works for me. This is the fastest and easiest knot to tie for me, regardless of what you want to call it. As to it passing freely through the rings on a casting rod, I've never had any issues with it hanging up. If it's hanging up, then it's not being tightened sufficiently. That's my experience for what it's worth.

It's also a very small, compact knot that goes through guides easily, making for smooth casting. Not only that, the leading tag end of this knot is the braid end which is soft and supple, so it doesn't catch on the guides as it goes through them while casting the way a stiffer mono or fluoro tag end might. Very simple to tie and no special tools needed other than braid scissors. Thank you to whoever invented this knot and shared it with us. I wonder how it got it's name, anyone know?

But the FG knot isn't difficult to tie though? 😂 Learning will set you free. The FG knot is just a basic knot that all good anglers should learn. Imagine casting through your rod guides with that GT knot with a large stick bait. It looks like a bad news waiting to happen.. Try and do a PR knot without a bobbin. That takes ages! But what a great knot when it comes to braid join to mono for deep drops and mechanical jigging targeting your dream fish and no let it get away because you cheap out on your knot.

The Correct GT knot that won the sport fishing competition is NOT the knot you're showing. The correct GT knot requires a bimini twist followed by a series of complex twist. It's a Totaly different knot than what you're showing. Also, the Real, GT knot was Only good for higher line strengths such as 60lb braid to 80 lb mono. Do some research.
