Alex, I heard you say that you don’t love fly tying. However, I’d guess that given your penchant for creativity with your fly fishing videos, that if you’d dive in a little deeper you would learn to love fly tying. I’ve been tying for 52 years now and love the fact there’s constantly more to learn. Although I live in the Rocky Mountains, I’ve recently started tying saltwater patterns for redfish and other species. I used to host a fly tying get together at my home once a month where friends of all skill levels could brainstorm and have a fun evening tying new patterns. If entomology is of interest to you, then there’s no better way to learn about bugs than by tying the flies that imitate them. Lastly, there’s no better way to pass the winter months than by refilling your boxes for spring. These days there are tons of resources online to take your skills to the next level. Some fantastic tiers share their skills for free that benefit all of us who love fly fishing and fly tying. Love your content. Keep it up!

Thanks Jeff. It is more that I really don't have the time to tie my own flies any more - editing literally fills any gaps in my day and I go through SO many flies, I just could never keep up!

I tied some of these based on your descriptions in past videos. Made mine on a jig hook with some bigger beads and a pink hot spot thread collar. Worked awesome on my local river. Used UV dyed squirrel dubbing. Great fly! Thanks for sharing

@jamesdunlop57963 жыл бұрын
Hi like you I hate fly tying but when I visit NZ from Scotland I tie hare and coppers and pheasant tails in different sizes and just buy a few dries. Tying those will save you a lot of cash as flies there are pricey.

PT's & H&C's - literally don't need anything else. I'm like you - I keep putting off the fly tying episodes, so that all I ever tie are the 'meat hunters'. Don't seem to get round to being creative. Nice clip. Keep the Kaweka's in mind for this summer. I didn't get up there last year, but keen to make it happen this summer...

Hi. Could that fly be used on still water. Or does it work best on a swing.
@TrippinOnTrout3 жыл бұрын
Yeah bro, maybe an unweighted or lightly weighted version for still water and when fishing it in rivers always go for a dead drift, without drag as much as possible - looks way more natural that way

Nice tie. I'm even more lazy and just use a little dubbing wax. I don't split the thread. Usually holds in long enough to catch a few fish before it is lost. Just moved to tpo the week before lock down. Got out on the local yesterday. Insane amounts of willing fish. Can't wait to get out again. None on the h/c tho

Hi Alex Not being clever but how does this simple little nymph fear in England. I mean a lot of the original lures and Nymphs originated from there anyway. Scaggyer the best I think. Cool little video mate. Take care. Craig.
