How to tie the Lasso pellet hair rig for carp

The pellets most commonly used are specifically designed for fish in fish farms. Trout and salmon pellets range from 2mm upwards and Halibut pellets up to 20mm. All of these have high oil contents. You can use pellets designed for carp which have much lower oil levels but carp tend to like the high oil ones better. I hope that helps.

Hi, yes it works very well in still water as well as rivers. It will work well if the pellets sink. I think using braid for floating pellets is a bit of a crude presentation. I prefer using mono for fishing with floating pellets. I tie a standard monofilament hair rig but use a very short hair, just enough to get the pellet on. The closer to the hook the bait is the better really. I hope that helps.

Another excellent description! For barbel fishing is it necessary/advisable to use the silicone tubing and the shrink wrap please?

Yeah, sure, that would work great. Try tying it with the overall length of the hooklink being no longer than 6". It sometimes works well to push the pellet hookbait back into the method feeder. Good luck!

For barbel I've used a long isn hair and the silicone and caught a few but I've had more success using a short hair with no silicone almost as if it were side hooked. If using mono or fluorocarbon as a hooklink then no shrink tube but for braid I think it helps

Thanks Myles. I'm interested in using this in Saltwater fishing. My big flesh baits obscure the hook gape even on a 7/0 hook. Which means I miss smaller fish.

That will work. I have used flat waxed thread in this way when chunking for tuna. It should work for other species. Could be good with a circle hook too.

Give it a try but I don't think so. Most mono would curl up when the lasso is opened and closed. Give it a try though.

Hi Mickey, I'm glad you tried it. Try to take the time to pull it tight by pulling the knot back and forth a few times. I've used on Halibut and trout pellets from 20mm down to 6mm for barbel. Pellets will always get soft and break down so you will need to check you bait regularly. It's a great method when the bites are coming fast or you have the fish in the swim feeding already on your bait.

Way to complicated , tie a small loop , use your desire6 size of band. Job done in seconds
